I swap my rear axle a month ago, is always a good idea to remove the springs first (After removing the tires of course lol) They hold unnecessary tension while working on the axle. Other than that, good video...and Beautiful Mach.
@adamjustice8250 Жыл бұрын
I am not an expert on this, but in other applications direct spring tension has no effect on longevity or condition of most springs. Spring steel fatigue is caused during the act of compressing or flexing the spring, leaving a spring under compression has barely any effect. They have high yield strength and high recoverable plastic strain

Hi, how do you go about balancing the drive shaft afterwards? Any marking will be gone as its a total replacement. Thanks
@dannyjohnsonsgarage3 жыл бұрын
A machine shop can balance it. It would be a great time for them to install new u joints too
@s34nvideos3 жыл бұрын
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage Sorry, i think my question may have been unclear. Let me try again: When you remove the drive shaft, you mark both: the front end and the rear end with marker/paint When you replace the entire rear end (diff), then you wont have those markings on the rear. So what is the solution for this? The drive shaft is of course balanced, but its not balanced against the new diff
@dannyjohnsonsgarage3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, you most likely won’t have any issues. I rebuilt my entire rear end with all new parts minus the drive shaft and it was fine. If you run into any problems try rotating (installing) the drive shaft one quarter turn and try again.

What would be the symptom of a broke diff? Cause while I had my car on jacks I noticed the driver side wheel would only really turn when I give it gas but the passenger continuously spins like I imagine it should
@dannyjohnsonsgarage2 жыл бұрын
It depends on the model too. The v6 is an open end diff and only the passenger side has power (you’ll see a one wheel tread mark if you peel out). On the GT and Cobra it’s a traction lock, so they are designed to spin individually so the wheels can turn at different speeds on turns (otherwise the wheels would lock up and lurch since the outer wheel on a turn spins more than the inner wheel). It’s only in a straight line that both lock up. If they aren’t locking up, then the clutch packs inside the diff may be worn to where they don’t lock up, then you could use a rebuild
@NovaCaine24892 жыл бұрын
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage it's just a v6, so what I'm seeing is supposed to happen?

Same process. The 05-09 (GT at least) has another sway bar in the rear called a pan hard bar, but just remove it as well.

@lovasky7 жыл бұрын
Yo Danny, do you know what's the stock hight of a new edge mustang? Cause I'm trying ether get coils or just springs but my car has some weird stance from the previous owner. I guess he chopped the stock springs and call it a day.
@dannyjohnsonsgarage7 жыл бұрын
armando ocampo it is very common to cut the springs one full rotation to lower the car because they have a progressive spring rate and it's possible without completely jeopardizing the suspension. The stock height can vary between the GT, Mach 1, and cobra, but I'd just buy factory replacement springs (used) or some eibachs
@lovasky7 жыл бұрын
Danny Johnson the thing is that in all four corners there's a different height. Like on front is 27'' and 25'' on the other side haha, so he didn't do a good job on that. So I'm planning on getting some springs but want to know the stock height so I know which ones to buy.
@TrxvisMxller7 жыл бұрын
To be clear - the only thing holding the rear end in place are the control arms and strut/shocks? I am using a 94-2004 Mustang 8.8" for a classic resto-mod and I am about to weld brackets; I'm trying to clarify that I am not missing anything in order to get the geometry correct. Ive noticed in other modern 8.8s there are a few extras - so any clarification would be much appreciated. Appreciate it.
@dannyjohnsonsgarage7 жыл бұрын
Yes, just the control arms and suspension. Keep in mind the 94-98 axle is about and inch shorter on each side than the 99-04 housing. You will have a sway bar connecting both lower control arms as well
@MrSlowestD164 жыл бұрын
Any particular reason you have the diff cover off? I need to do a bunch of shit to the rear end of mine and one of the items is a wheel bearing. My driveway isn't flat so I can't fill the diff up properly while it's in the car - I'm hoping to fill it up when I'm done with the rest of the maintenance while it's still on the ground and I can make sure it's level, then putting it up in the car and not having to do anything else to it.
