Update.. I tried this on my 2010 E90, and though it helped it was not as easy as the video. Possible answers, my spots were deeply etched, i used ZUD (no BKF in the house, same ingredients tho) didn't use enough? I went to Ultimate Compound on an orange foam pad and it worked well on the glass. BUT, the ZUD solution got on some faded plastic with spots on my drivers side mirror surround... I wiped it off with a micro towel.. and it restored the plastic. Zero work, nice dark black, no spots... BKF should work the same.

I had someone do this to my windows once long before I saw this video. The scratches it leaves are not obvious, but at night when a street lamp hits your windows just right, you can see all the little swirls of scratches it left behind. I know for sure scratches weren't there before this or I would have noticed them. I always spray my truck, never use any type of contact car washing methods and I am the truck's first owner.
@morejelloplease8 жыл бұрын
any abrasive will leave micro scratches behind that will show up under parking lot lighting. you have to perform another step to remove the micro scratches but will require a different type of polish. most are happy with the results of the first step when used on a sunroof or mirror. I personally wouldn't perform this on a windshield or passenger compartment window unless you know what you're doing. it's the same as applying rubbing compound to pain and then scratching your head wondering how you just added thousands of scratches when you were attempting to remove them.
@lJUSTwanaCOMMENT8 жыл бұрын
Agreed...I just wish he'd have told me before he did it and not after.
@luiscampos79528 жыл бұрын
Hey there! Well here's the secret; applying this is not bad at all and with the correct method it won't leave any light scratches or swirls. Well the secret is using a fluffy microfiber towel, apply a very light amount of Bar Keeper's Friend with bottled water (important since tap water has a lot of minerals and it's not a good idea in hot environment), and apply over the glass to be treated, constantly lubricating it with any glass cleaner, say windex or invisible glass, BUT, NEVER DO CIRCULAR MOTIONS. Do straight lines up-to-down. When finish, rinse with glass cleaner with a clean towel or microfiber, and for last, cure the clean glass with three coats of rainx(follow the proper rainx instructions of course for each coat). And yes, this won't leave any scratches or swirls even on night lights or direct daylight on the glass. No prob, thank me later buddy.

The water spots may be gone, but you can still hear the contaminants in the glass. Leave the bar keep for the bar, and clean auto glass properly with a polisher, glass polishing pad, and glass polish. When you do this, be careful not to overheat the glass. Windshields are made with two sheets of very strong durable glass and between those two sheets is a thin film. The film protects the driver in the event of an auto accident and prevents the shattering of the windshield. If you heat the glass up due to friction from the abrasives in the polish and the speed of the machine, you may bubble or wrinkle that plastic interlayer and when that happens, game over. Have to buy a new windshield. For those who may not have a polisher, a glass cleaner for lubricant (use liberally) and a razor blade at a 45 degree angle, going from top to bottom will also remove most contaminates, just be careful not to scratch the glass. Hope this helps.
@morejelloplease8 жыл бұрын
not everybody has a set of orange county polishing pads and a PC7424, G2, flex, or rotary with the correct compounds and polishes as we do. this is a simple method that anyone can use by taking a trip to the supermarket. everything comes with a risk these days. heck, you can choke on a teaspoon of water, and someone out there has done it :) There are several methods out there, ammo has a decent one.

@@morejelloplease Maybe I used to much but it totally destroyed my front windshield and scratched it also permanent swirl marks. The next day I went to a local detail outlet and the guys there used everything they had to try and undo the damage and it only made it worse. Thought for sure i was going to have to replace the glass . Luckily did some google searching found this local company Mr. Scratch Removal mrscratchremoval.com dude came out and resurfaced the glass took him like 2hrs 5 step process actually sanded the glass there was glass powder everywhere . It came out looking like brand new cost me $175. I also used the BKF mix on my head lights and there ruined also need to get those done next.

Would have been good it you didnt cut the video right before you wiped it off.
@morejelloplease7 жыл бұрын
you talking about 1:57 ? i only cut out 2-3 seconds. next time i'll leave my sneeze in the video LOL
@sponholio7 жыл бұрын
Yeah sorry. Just makes it look fake when it gets clipped right before the final outcome.
@morejelloplease7 жыл бұрын
hehe i know what you mean. i see that in videos all the time. you can actually see the streak marks are still drying when i come back from the cut, so literally it was only 2-3 seconds missing. I found a similar video on youtube which i thought was fake, so i tried it. the results were so amazing that i decided to make this video. this video is actually featured on several websites.

just to need to put on the surface. it's an abbrasive. no need to mix.

Eric jones I think the mixture would help it act more as a wet sanding compound than just a dry power which I can imagine might leave some deeper cuts. Just my thought on it.
