Having watermarks/spots on windscreen and glass can be dangerous as it limits our vision during night drives or during raining days.
Water-spots or watermarks forms when minerals crystalize on the surface. Here are some useful tips to remove water spot on glass, and how to prevent it from forming again. This is also our updated version from our previous video.

Just add a spoon of citric acid powder to a jar of boiling water and use it when it cools down. Use it in your bathroom chrome items and mirrors too. Easy, cheap, effective and non-corrosive. Note: Citric acid is widely used for industrial cleaning and isn't a serious acid. Thank me later.

I have tried an Indian product by a company called Wavex on my 20 year old car , It had tonnes of mineral buildup all over windsheild. It costed me around $5, but the product worked like a charm .. I didn’t use machine .. at places I have to do a second application (very very rare mostly because of visibility issues) ... but hey! It works ...I only wish they could have tweaked the aroma a bit (its not bad but it could definitely be better).

@OSRENOfficial
@OSRENOfficial Жыл бұрын
Hey, we don't recommend polishing side mirrors. reflective mirrors are made with glass and silver or aluminum. By polishing it, we risk ruining the coating of the mirror. Sometimes, acid-type cleaner might help, but it comes with risk too, perhaps slightly less risky than polishing. Got to proceed with caution and at your own risk.

Great video! I have two questions:- 1. How do I safely remove hard watermarks or spots on the side mirror? I am not sure if cerium oxide is the best option and I fear that it might damage the color of the coating or something. 2. After a snow wash (including washing the windshield using the snow wash shampoo), do I still need to use an ammonia free glass cleaner to clean the windshield? Thanks in advance.
@OSRENOfficial
@OSRENOfficial 9 ай бұрын
Hey Brian, 1) If your side mirror is tinted, there isn't much to do as you can't dissolve with acid nor polish it. We briefly cover this topic at this timing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3mcaqCHadClpZI If it's not tinted, this is at own risk, got to work fast, use a acid cleaner to dissolve and rinse quickly. Just to reiterate that this also has its risk, hence practice this at your own risk. 2) Entirely personal preference. if the regular wash with shampoo cleans the exterior window spotlessly, then there isn't a need. If not, go through the glass cleaner for extra clean surface. Mostly you will want to clean the interior glass with ammonia free glass cleaner.

I think someone did this to a car I bought a couple of years ago. They probably used paint polish though because there was a lot of small micro scratches that were really visible at night from the street lights and other cars lights. Does the glass have any micro scratches with this method? What does the view from the interior look like at night?

Hey Caleh, We used a dedicated felt disc that's designed for glass polishing, so there aren't any micro scratches that will occur on the glass. The 0000 steel wool method however, would highly likely cause marrings on glass.

Actually we did, it's showcased on our Malay infotainment. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2S2Xmmog8uViNE and the risk is not worth the recommendation. Off-screen we tried several cars' windows as well. And we noticed that on the side windows is easier to scratch with the steel wool 0000 method. It varies from car to car and we concluded that different manufacturers in different countries might produce different specifications of glass. Hence it's not something we feel comfortable recommending. Many have also suggested using acid. And we've seen countless detailers crying over the blurry windscreen that is caused by it. This happens easily on windscreens that are lightly scratched with wiper scratches. But if the wool method and acid work for you, it works for you. This is also an alternative that one might consider that doesn't involve any risk of scratching or blurring the window.

@@OSRENOfficial I used 0000 grade steel wool and it worked on my 2000 Lexus window. The 0000 steel wool is still very abrasive so I advice only use light pressure and keep spraying the surface with plenty of water. The auto glass is much harder than most household mirror glass or window glass. I tried the 0000 steel wool on my hand-held mirror and surely it created plenty of scratches. Try it on a inconspicuous area first.

Generally how much is a glass restore like that cost as a service? I have been asked to do one very similar and do not know what to charge. Just 4 hours labour you think?
@OSRENOfficial

Hey Matt Le Moo! For conditions such as what I worked on in the video, that too me about 4 hours for all the glass. If it is not as severe, I would say generally 3 hours including the coating would suffice

Good Video !!! can you use Scatch Remover instead ?
@OSRENOfficial
@OSRENOfficial 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Joni English! Scratch Removers for paint may not be as effective because, 1. Scratch Removers are made with Aluminium Oxide which is harder than glass. Tendency to cause swirls / marring on glass 2. It doesn’t contain mineral dissolvers. Hence making the process slower But there guys that uses compounds for the glass which I personally avoid from

As long as you’re not getting streaks and you’re getting good hydrophobicity, yea it’s good!

Carnauba anywhere is fine (except windscreen), but my experience is that fluorine-based coatings last much longer for glass. It's better value to use something like Osren's fluorine coat vs just applying wax every two weeks. The fluorine coats can easily last months even when the car is parked outdoors, when applied correctly.
