This is where I am at on my TO20. I've done my top cover and my PTO shaft bearing and seal. I need my friend to come over and drop the bottom out since I can't get down on the floor. As luck would have it, my friend just retired yesterday from the Pierce fire truck company so now we both can work on this thing and finish it. I have helped do 2 of his tractors and a garden tractor. We have fun working on these projects together. I am mostly body, paint, and engine and he does more of the mechanicals. My TO is an early 1948 so it does not have the crossbar. I think dropping the bottom out of mine will be a bit heavier since my tractor is cast iron all the way back from the motor where yours is aluminum. Just taking off one of the rear axle housings surprised me and took me to the floor, it's heavy. Thanks for the videos!

Hi Lance, Thanks for your series of TEA-20 repairs. They will be referred to for a long time! When I’ve done a day’s work with mine, I’m amazed at the abilities of a 1951 machine and it’s all round economy of ownership. Even if I don’t need to do a repair, it’s great to understand how it works, to have mechanical sympathy. 🦘🇦🇺

You should but have a look as to why the shaft came out, it may have a bad circlip.

In my part of the world 8n and 9n Fords out numbered the Ferguson by a wide margin. All of the parts warehouses stock parts for Fords but the Fergies get short shrift. My problem is that I need the control valve plunger that you show pulling the pin out of from the bottom. The Ford plunger is almost identical but is just a few thousand's smaller than the Ferguson's. It's enough of a difference to make sealing in an already worn Ferguson bore an issue. Every supplier I've tried lists the Ford and the Ferguson parts number as identical. I've ordered two only to find that they are just as undersized even though the part is listed as a Ferguson TO 20 replacement. I've gotten really good at getting that pump out although you can reach the plunger without removing the pump.
@flhusa13 жыл бұрын
There are 2 valve styles and I think you are wanting the early one that doesn't oscillate . All the new ones are the smaller one you are finding because it was a better design that kept the yoke from popping off . If the valves sticks while you mover the lever it pops off the yoke and you have to reach inside and pop valve back on. Only option would be finding a good early style one. Google Ferguson hydraulic pump valve sticking and you should find some info .
@slowpokebr5493 жыл бұрын
@@flhusa1 I never realized that there were two different pumps until watching this video.Mine is definitely the older style. Mine will work with the small plunger but it leaks down and as you say, is prone to popping off. I knew that the Ford one wasn't right, I just assumed that it was the problem. Still, I cannot find the early style. I'd buy a parts tractor if I thought it had the right one.Or order one if I knew they had the right part.

@@slowpokebr549 not 2 different pumps but 2 styles of valve. looking for the info for you. i think original to20 had non osscilating design and to30 had the valve that oscilates. keeps valve from sticking

@@slowpokebr549 i think it's not a valve but the linkage is the different there were two different types of oscillator fitted, the original square type with the long thin rod and the later flat aluminium strip type, this is the one that uses the slots in the Control Valve to drive

@@BundyBearsShed Keep the videos coming because the only difference mainly on our Fergies in USA is the engine . We have Continental's . Harry Ferguson was quite a guy . First man in Ireland to fly in a airplane he built himself. Invented the modern day 3 point hitch still used today. Invented double A- arm front suspension.

One of my Ferguson must have the boltless valve cause it pops off every once in a while. Have to reach inside and pop it back into the fork. Do you know which part number of the valve itself that wobbles to help it move better ? There are 2 styles of valves .

There are two styles of valves but the fork is also needed and I show it in the next video if I get editing time. Hopefully soon.

Hi Lance, Your timing is appalling! Just last week I took my hydraulic pump out for refurbishment (1951 TED20). Having watched your previous video on the early TE20, I realised when I took the side covers off that things had changed. The job is finished now, but I really wish that I had seen this video BEFORE removing both bolts holding the aluminium spacer/brace to the valve operating arms. When I put the pump back in it took me over two hours to get just one of the bolts back in! What I really needed was my five year grandson's hands with my strength and dexterity. The second bolt only took 10 to 15 minutes. Good luck if you remove BOTH bolts. Oh, by the way, great videos, thank you very much.
@BundyBearsShed3 жыл бұрын
Bugger, I should have hurried up, lol. You only need to take one bolt out.
