I know this video is a bit old, but this is the fix for QuickTime not showing up in the render settings. Options > Preferences > Depreciated Feautres > Enable The Quicktime plugin

Can confirm this tutorial still works today! I needed to make one end of a clip without transparency and kept wondering what I did wrong (and finding the quick time plugin within the options-preferences-depreciated features). When I saw the part where you said "import the video again" and then change the alpha channel is where it FINALLY clicked for me what I was doing wrong. Thank you again for this awesome tutorial.

Might be because I use Sony Vegas 15 Pro but I don't get that option to select Quicktime nor does it install properly. All the images I want to make into a short video are all transparent and all are preset to Straight (unmatted). I even did a test by throwing in a random color background to make sure they're transparent when I placed them on the timeline and they were. The issue is when I render the video, the black background still stays on the images once the video has rendered. I've been trying to figure this issue for a while now. Thanks for any help you can offer in advance to the issue.

Hey there Sairento, I'm glad you are reaching out to me regarding your request. Someone else was asking this question as well and I already did answer it. First of all I'm glad everything is working even though QuickTime doesn't show up. Now, within any preview no matter if your are using Windows Media Player or VLC or what ever player you might use a transparent background can not be displayed. It will always be a black background instead. You have to understand that a transparent background don't works the same as with pictures and logos for example. Because it's a video it won't be able to show a transparent background within the preview. I hope this answer was helpful. I installed quicktime yet I do not have the Quicktime 7 as a render option

Make sure to close VEGAS Pro and turn off your computer. Reboot it and start up VEGAS Pro again. Now it should be visible. Also make sure you didn't selected the "star" within the render options otherwise only your favorites will appear. Keep me posted if this fixed your issue.

So there's no way to actually render a transparent video? Im trying to make animated twitch alerts with no background but there seems to be zero option for that anywhere

The only way to render videos with a transparent background in VEGAS Pro is the way I explain in this video. After you are done rendering your transparent background video and play it back on your desktop it will appear as if the video has a black background. That's normal because a transparent background can't be displayed within the Windows Media Player or VLC Media Player. But I would also suggest to make any animating work not in VEGAS Pro but at least within After Effects. A much more powerful software when it comes to animation work. I would like to take the moment and also thank you for taking that time of your day by writing this comment. It really means a lot to me. Even though a lot of people say that on KZbin, I truly mean it. Without feedback like yours I wouldn't know if my video was helpful or not, if I need to improve something for future uploads or if you have any other questions. So, once again thanks a lot! Sure thing! After you download the QuickTime Player make sure to install it properly. After that make sure your VEGAS Pro is closed, restart your computer and restart VEGAS Pro. Hey there Dan, there is no such thing called transparent noise. You have two options. Either you download a noise effect overlay and place it on top of your footage in a new video track and change the "Compositing Mode" of the video track including the overlay to "Add", so you will generate the noise that you are looking for (you can also play with the opacity of the overlay clip to adjust the amount of noise) or you add the standard noise effect witihin the "Video FX" tab of VEGAS Pro. I hope I was able to help you!

Hallo Brando, hast du auch die neuste Version von QuickTime installiert? Wenn QuickTime installiert wird, wird automatisch das .mov codec mitinstalliert, das es dir erlaubt Videos mit transparenten Hintergrund zu rendern. Nach der Installation von QuickTime solltest du ebenfalls VEGAS Pro 17 sowie deinen Rechner neustarten. Ich hoffe ich konnte dir helfen!

Good to see this helped so many people. I'm not one of them. I have Movie Studio 16. I used Adobe Photoshop to create a png file with a transparent background. Followed all of your steps, but it made it worse! Rendering just the png image, using Quicktime 7, creates a blank video, even though preview of the animation looks great. Changing the properties after importing back to Studio does nothing.

I found the culprit: The track Fx settings (as opposed to event Fx settings) for scale and position of the picture in picture frame were way off. I set the position to 0.5,0.5 and scale to 1.0 and it rendered fine using the new Magix AVC/AAC MP4 rendering template that comes with Studio 16. No need to use Quicktime 7 or the steps outlined in this tutorial for this newer version.

Black and white squares? If you want to create an intro with a transparent background just make sure you are using no background layers while animating your text, logo whatever and then render it just like I show in this video.

Let's say you wanted to render just the square on it's own, without any background at all, how do you do that? If you were to remove the space effect and just render the square, it would render with a black background.

No it would not. If you follow the step by step guide properly and you will be able to render anything with a transparent background. Of course if you preview it right after the render in some media player then the background will be black. Media players can't show you transparent background. I hope I could help you!

Look for a .mov rendering option otherwise you might have to update your QuickTime Player and restart your system before opening up VEGAS Pro again.

Maybe there is a new version of QuickTime available that you can try out. Normally after you downloaded and installed QuickTime you have the rendering codec as well. Make sure to restart Sony Vegas and your computer after the installation. I know this is not the best answer but I hope I could help you. Also, maybe it has a different name. Just look for a rendering option that ends with .mov

I just fixed the problem by unistalling QT and reinstalling the newest version. Afer a PC reboot the .mov Render Option was shown as in the video.

That's not possible. No video that has a transparent background will have a transparent background while played back in some kinda media player. It will always be black. This technique is useful for editors that want to add something with a transparent background over another scene.

You can render a video without audio by hiding all audio tracks but you can't render a video without an audio track. There will always be one no matter what.

Restart the software and your computer and try it again. If it won't show up after that you might have to re-install QuickTime Player and going with the "expert" way of installing where you can choose which things should be installed and not just the standard way. Hope this helps.

Make sure to restart your Sony Vegas as well as your PC after installing QuickTime 7.7.9, also look for .mov rendering options. Maybe the render option has a different name and that's why you couldn't find it jet.

Restart the whole system this might need to be done as well. Also check if the codec might be located within a different list under a different name. You should look out for .mov Hope this helps!

I tried this recently, and I ran into an issue where any regions that weren't completely opaque in the video had a blackish background to them, but the rest of the background was transparent like it should be. I really want to know cause I want to render a video that just so happens to have a green screen onto another video. But I want the green screen to be transparent. That way whatever happens on the green screen will be layered onto a separate video. But so far I haven't found a way to do this. Can you or anyone else please tell me if this is possible and if so can you tell me how to do it!?

You can use the effect called "Chroma Keyer" that is located in your Video-FX tab make the greenscreen transparent. Just pull the effect onto your greenscreen footage and change the Chroma Keyer color to the greenscreen green. If you want your videos to always have a transparent background you should render your videos to .mov I didn't see .mp4 working to well with a transparent background but please don't quote me on that. Maybe someone has a methode to create transparent videos with the .mp4 format. I have been using .mov for as long as I know!

Everytime I render this without Chroma Keyer it never works, ive used the "Animation" & the "PNG" option in the render settings with no luck. When I do use the keyer and then render, I import my .mov file into my clip & apply "Straight (unmatted)" the background it works. But the problem is when I then wanna drag my lower third to wherever on the screen there's a darker transparent background (1920x1080) on my clip making it clearly visible, any help?

That's super weird Cascoh. You should definitely not use the chroma keyer while following this tutorial. Normally everything should work just fine. Maybe try to re-install VEGAS Pro or even the QuickTime player. Also make sure to follow my tutorial closely, maybe you missed something even though I doubt it.

Hello Kusina, please make sure you followed all the steps properly! Don't forget to change the "Alpha channel" from "None" to "Straight (unmatted)" after importing your transparent background video back into VEGAS Pro. If you should still face any issues go through the comments! Some people had problems in regards to the QuickTime codec but luckily some others found fixes for these issues. Have a wonderful day!
