Great tip for a common problem wherever there is ceramic tile. The hardest part is matching the color of the tile. Another tip that I have seen is to use common nail paint/polish, which comes in almost limitless colors, so a close match to your tile is not impossible.

Just chipped corner of a brand new piece of shower wall tile trying to clean thinset out of the grout line! I am debating whether to try repairing following your example, or just take a hammer and tear it out and replace. So frustrating! The positive is that the tile is 8" X 20" ceramic tile and popped (superficial) corner off. I may give this a shot instead of tearing the whole piece of tile out! Thanks for sharing the tip!

Thanks again for great tip, as have used those types of things before, but didn't know able to mix paints/stains to get the colour you want(yep, know oil based needs oil paint/stain)👍🏻👍🏻 Was hoping you could do a video on tile & grout repair around a fireplace. Have grout crack & missing from couple spots on fireplace where grout line is around fireplace itself with NOTHING behind it for support(never seen anything like this before), & wondering if that's why everything is falling apart etc... If want pics let me know & be happy to email them to(just in case don't understand what I mean...). HAPPY HOLIDAYS 🎄Home RenoVision Team & Moskal Multimedia Team🎄🎄

You could also try super glue and baking soda. It dries up in a minute and is super hard. The color comes out a whitish gray. You can shape it with a razor and fine sandpaper. The finish is like a matte finish not glossy though.

epoxy is pretty thick, maybe the fast drying epoxy in "layers" that way you can gauge how quick it does or doesnt run... and if it does a little just take your time and sand it back plum with the wall. Im no expert. Also you could fill it in the clay or something similar a little receesed and then gently, slowy paint on the glaze as he uses in this vid and it could/should seal the clay below it. I know you posted a year ago, but it would be nice to see a response about if you think these ideas are good and what you ended up doing, thanks. Hope the year has started well for ya.

@hermtastic
@hermtastic 4 жыл бұрын
If the liquid is thin, then you'd need several thinner coats and keep an eye on it to wipe off anything that runs. You could also let the mix harden a bit before you apply, stirring it for consistency, but don't use cardboard if you do that, use something non-porous like aluminum or plastic. Just to make sure you can layer it, check the packaging or call the 800 number on the package to make sure you can layer the product on top of itself. To get it flat, you may need to sand it on your second-to-last layer, but be sure to mask off the good tile if you're going to do that.

For vertical surfaces or floors in only one application, thicken epoxy with wood flour (very fine dust from the bag on your sander) until you have a peanut butter texture or. If you only have 5 minute epoxy, mix only one part thoroughly with the filler and colors, then once homogenous, add the second part and mix again, but quickly. degrease the surface and apply. sand when fully cured.

So I ran into a problem after installing my porcelain tile, I noticed some of the tiles had small scratches into it's glaze after I installed and grouted. Is there any way to fill in these hairline scratches? They are super thin but can be seen by the light's reflection and some of them can barely catch a nail. I almost want to try a non abrasive car wax on them. Love the channel thank you for all the tips!

Great video. Agreed we all make mistakes, but being a paying client you”d expect the tile to be replaced, and builders usually get extra anyway that has already been paid for by the client. If ya doing it ya self well maybe it doesn’t matter. I think messing about with trying to match colours ect and mixing you’d have a new tile in place waiting to be grouted and the sin is gone which ya looking for anyway.

Hi Jack, being a smart contractor I informed the client that since the tile was not available in the event of a chip. @js-amg
@js-amg 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jeff I appreciate that. I just wouldn't do it that way. Any smart contractor to quote yourself would come up with other options, and repairing a hole in the floor should've been your last option. I can give you at least 5 right now and it would have been a damn sight better than a repaired hole in the floor I can tell ya. I can't accept your reply. I think that's a dead set cop out, and ya trying to save money so as to save profits, and that's the usual speal you get when trades people have to put their hands in their own pocket when they mess up and they don't like doing that, that's for sure. Come on Jeff, your a great tradesman and bogging up a hole is a last and only option you came up with after years of experience? People aren't that gullible my friend, and the irony of it all, is the client wont remember the great job that was done. rather he'll be looking down at the bugged up hole in the floor for the rest of his days, and he keep the memory alive as he watches it on youtube sitting in the bath knowing he 's only feet away.... Lol..

Good to know. I got a whole bunch of black subway tile from lowes and sat on them for a half a year waiting to get to install them. Boy was I in for a surprise when i started to look through them and saw all sorts of scuffed tiles or pitting in the glaze... got a great deal. But I have over 180 tiles that are mostly perfect, 150 with minor damage that wont look bad under normal lighting but then 200 that need to be fixed or conveniently split and used strategically to avoid damage and will still have noticeable imperfections when I'm done. Luckily my wife loves to paint, so this might have saved us heart ache. Anyone have experience with this? Can I treat it like chip repair on a car? Will I be able to polish the surface after to get a shine? Such a stressful time spending hundreds of dollars to find out I didnt plan for catastrophic level problems in my products.... which I only started learning during this remodel. I did plan for some problems due to the nature of DIY learning, but man... I didnt expect to have 1/3 of my product to be nearly unusable.

The white part is porc-a-fix aka porcelain chip fix aka tub and tile touchup... You might be able to get away with something less industrial, like a porcelain paint, if the issue in a place where people don't walk. If the paint isn't shiny, you would need a topcoat, something like an automotive clear coat, which is meant for heavy abuse from users.

I was surprised to hear you recommend oil paint. I’m an artist and when I paint in oils they sometimes take two weeks to dry. I’m assuming you wouldn’t want a bathroom out of commission for that long. Does something in the chemical makeup of the porcelain repair make the oil paint dry quicker or am I misunderstanding what type of paint you’re recommending. Also, if I can find a repair kit with the right color(s) is it better to use the paint or tint they provide rather than oils?
