Here's a video we did showing how to repair a Gallagher fence charger, in particularly an older model made by Gallagher called the Gallagher M1500. This particular unit needed a new output transformer and a new connector on a wire going to the capacitor. Other than that, the electric fencer was working like a dream.
Gallagher themselves no longer make an output transformer themselves, but we have one here that we have specifically designed for this unit. The new transformer installs directly into the same spot as the original transformer did without having to modify the case or anything.

Excellent video ! Is there a higher quality charger than this on the market with the similar specs to the M1500 looking for around 10-15 Joules output to guard against hungry deer. Area is prone to lightning strikes. Thanks again !

There are a few brands out there that still make units in the 10-15 Joule range and bigger, some are good and some are overpriced junk that'll last 3-8 years. The two brands sold here in the states that are still worth a darn, are Gallagher and Cyclops. Speedrite/Stafix are ok, but are really expensive and they use dinky little parts on their boards and they stress out and go bad in about 5 or so years. Also, please.... Stay away from the Zareba, red snapper, Blitzer, American Farmworks, and anything sold at TSC. You'll waste your money on that stuff and it's complete garbage. Priced right so people will buy it, they don't last worth a darn, maybe 1-5 years if you're lucky. If I was going to pick between the two brands, Gallagher and Cyclops, I'd lean more towards the Gallagher stuff myself. They're overall reliability is top notch, they use good plastic on their cases, and they come with a 3 year warranty. The Cyclops are cheaper priced than Gallagher, they do put out a nice shock, cheaper plastic that can crack with age, and they only come with a 1 year warranty, with extended warranties available, but by then, you could've bought a really good Gallagher unit. The Gallagher units I would look at in that power range are the M800, M1100, M1500, or MB1000. The M800 is 8 joules, M1100 is 11 joules, M1500 is 15 joules, and the MB1000 is 12 joules and can be run by either AC or DC if your power goes out. Do you really need that much power to keep in deer. Thanks for the question. I'm not a manufacturer of parts or transformers. I have them made by a company here in the states and they likely have that info. They make them and I use them. They cut a part one of the factory originals and based their construction off of that. Are you needing a transformer?

If they can't provide you with that information, no problem. I would need the information more than the transformer.

Which ground wire are you asking about? The one from your fence tester or something else? Happy to help, but not quite sure which ground wire your asking about.

Oh ok ok I know what you mean. I don't know what some manufacturers call this test, but I call it a ground fault test for the transformer. You only have to do this on AC powered units. The easiest way to do this in the field is just connect up the ground side only to the unit and no fence. Plug the unit back in and it should still click and run like normal with the same high kv output reading. If the transformer acted fine before, but you connect up a ground to it and the red light goes out, the clicking gets a bit louder, and the voltage drops, your transformer has a ground fault within in it. How I do it in the shop, I have a wire hooked into the ground side of my outlet, I plug the unit into that outlet, then touch the wire to the ground side of the unit. It only takes one pulse to know if you have an issue with it or not. I would only do this on any Gallagher AC unit that's designed with the transformers like the M800 or M1500 has. Any other brand or model of ac powered Gallagher, really doesn't need this test done. Hopefully this makes since.

It depends on the brand, model, and what is wrong with a unit. Some units, like Gallagher, cost more to buy so they cost more to fix compared to a cheaper priced unit like a Parmak. Hello, thank you for the video. I have reason to believe that I also have a unit with a bad transformer. Its a Gallagher M800. It is ticking but I have less than 2000 V. I allready replaced the big capacitor that is sitting on the side, but it was of no help... So now I think it is the transformer. Can I order one and what does it cost to ship to Belgium? Thank you!

You do likely have a bad output transformer. First remove the small output board from the unit and plug it back in testing across the top side of the two tabs on the transformer. You should read 7-9kv if it does, likely the transformer is good, but your output board is bad. If it only goes up a little bit, but is 5kv or less, then it's likely the transformer.
