I purchased a fancy looking stainless steel dishwasher used to replace the 1976 model that came with the house we purchased recently. After running it for a few months my wife came to the conclusion it wasn't heating the water. Appreciating the troubleshooting input I tore into the pieces that make up the dishwasher eventually finding the diverter valve had a switch inside that was frozen. I bought a variety pack of switches off Amazon (Affiliate link below) which had a similar switch as what was on the PCB. With some sloppy soldering using a much too large soldering iron I was able to install the new switch and bring this dishwasher back to its former glory.
Symptoms:
Dishwasher would run for hours on end, could take 4 hours to wash a load.
There would never be steam when opening the door, even if heated dry was selected.
Pink mold was growing on the inside of the dishwasher.
The filters/traps at the bottom near the drain would get clogged easy with a slime substance that would need to be cleaned just about every time we washed dishes.
