This panel can put out close to 100 watts kzbin.infoUgkxOqI2yqX0XVrhR2BMJciTWrHJpG8FhJyg when positioned in the appropriate southernly direction, tilted to the optimal angle for your latitude/date, and connected to a higher capacity device than a 500. The built in kickstand angle is a fixed at 50 degrees. Up to 20% more power can be output by selecting the actual date and latitude optimal angle.The 500 will only input 3.5A maximum at 18 volts for 63 watts. Some of the excess power from the panel can be fed into a USB battery bank, charged directly from the panel while also charging a 500. This will allow you to harvest as much as 63 + 15 = 78 watts.If this panel is used to charge a larger device, such as the power station, then its full output potential can be realized.

You should do a follow-up in 6-12 months to see how it ages when exposed to elements. I'd expect edges to peel-off and allow water to enter but who knows... :)

The voids behind the film can also act as pumps for moisture. When the gas heats up, the overpressure escapes through any gaps. Then when it cools off, any condensation or moist air gets pulled in by the partial vacuum.

Unfortunately, such a solution is short-lived. The heat of the sun and rain destroy the protective plastic quickly. And currently, for example, you can get new and much more efficient intact panels from Finland for the same price. For example, 350Wp = 49.00€ and 410Wp = 69.00€ So buying a new one is much cheaper.
@Rizon19857 жыл бұрын
This won't last very long. Laminating film won't like the 50°C temperatures. And while rain will flow over it, moisture is still going to creep deeper and deeper at all the edges. I would remove the glass and use clear casting resin to make a new layer. Weatherproof, heat resistant, light and only a little bit more cost.
@darrisx81464 жыл бұрын
How long does it take clear casting resin to yellow in the sunlight?
@Rizon19854 жыл бұрын
@@darrisx8146 Depends on the resin. You want one that yellows very quick because that means it's a resin without added UV stabilizers/inhibitors. Otherwise UV light will be blocked by the resin and you lose a considerable amount of light on the PV cell. On cloudy days where UV is almost the only spectrum that gets through the clouds, you'd relatively lose a lot of production.
@geoffwilliams90353 жыл бұрын
Do you have any details of the type of resin you're talking about?
@ratgreen2 жыл бұрын
@@Rizon1985 but surely the resin that isn't uv resistant will cloud up and then block the sunlight hitting the panels even more. Either you use uv resistant resin that blocks out uv and you lose power, or you use non uv stable resin, that goes yellow and cloudy after a few months and you lose power. Its a lose lose situation

The inverter gets 200w totally. You need too much area to compansate the same power and its not effective.

Really nice. :) I'm thinking in a project using a small solar panel. It would be like that... Connecting it to a step down (using a diode, of course) to get 5v, then connect it to a TP4056, that would be connected to 6 lithium cells from a notebook battery. From that the energy goes to a step up and to a 10w LED reflector (using a 12v dc driver). And I would make a darkness sensor to power it up or down. :) Don't know how much time the batteries would last without sunlight or if one day would be enough to charge them... But I'm going to try. :D

@@Nobody_Famous True, but for original question, just got 290w panel and electrician neighbor tested it that efficiency drop to 250w after glass shattered, so it does have rather big effect but per say but compared to price its not that much, still it does effect panels utility life greatly so replacing the glass should be done if all possible. Hot and needing it to be optically clear does create issues, specially since i presume glass has plastic film between, so you cant really fill the gap form outside with resin or anything.
@SamsDIY5 ай бұрын
not the glass being broken, only the amount of damage on the actual cells. I do EL and IV testing for hail damage at work and I've had 545w bifacial panels still output their rated amount of 545w after a few rounds of hail testing and the glass breaking. Most other panels follow suit, but the more damage they take BEFORE breaking the glass, the worse the output is.

any one using broken glass panels? I can get 380w panels for usd$25 each... any dangers if a cell is damaged? I'll be installing those on my roof, so i dont want to burn my house down..
@SamsDIY5 ай бұрын
I wouldn't install them on your roof. There is risk of arcing if the cells get wet or are too damaged. The only way to know for sure is to check with Electro-luminescence test. Reverse current at Isc spec and look at the microcracks, with a special lens on the camera of course lol. But if they don't look like they are damaged badly on the busbars you're probably okay. Just make sure you seal it somehow. Good for projects on the ground, not your house, because there is always a risk. Insurance probably wouldn't cover it since they were already damaged before you put them up on the roof. Not worth the risk to me. But for something like a solar shed etc. I wouldn't worry too much.
