Regulator
The voltage regulator controls the amount of power distributed from the alternator to the battery in order to control the charging process. Regulators are designed with different functions and work depending on their specification.
Rectifier
The rectifier is used to convert current from alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) during the charging process.
Rotor
The rotor is the spinning mass inside the alternator that rotates via the pulley and drive belt system. The rotor acts as a spinning electromagnet.
Slip Rings
The Slip rings are used as a means of providing direct current and power to the rotor.
Slip Ring End Bearing
The bearings are designed to support the rotation of the rotor shaft.
Stator
The stator consists of several coils of wire wound through an iron ring. The stator sits outside the rotor, when a magnetic field is created the electrical current is made.
Drive End Bearing
The bearings are designed to support the rotation of the rotor shaft.
Pulley
The pulley is connected to the rotor shaft and the drive belt system. Rotation created by the engine the drive belt system turns the pulley beginning the charging process.
Armature
The armature is an electromagnet, mounted on the drive shaft and bearings for support. It is a laminated soft iron core which is wrapped with numerous conductors loops or windings.
Brushes
The brushes run on a section of the commutator at the rear of the housing, making contact with the contacts of the commutator and conducting electricity.
Solenoid
The solenoid contains of two coils of wire that are wrapped around a moveable core. The solenoid acts as a switch to close the electrical connection and connects the starter motor to the vehicle's battery.
Plunger
The plunger works by using the connected vehicle battery and the solenoid to push the plunger forward, which engages the pinion.
Lever Fork
The lever fork is connected to the plunger so when the plunger is pushed forwards, so is the lever fork. This process then activates the pinion.
Pinion
The pinion is a unique combination of a gear and springs. Once the starter is engaged the gear is extended into the gearbox housing and is engaged with the flywheel. This spins the engine to begin the combustion process.
Field Coils
The housing holds the starter fields in the housing with screws. This can consist of two to four field coils connected in series. Energised by the battery this converts the coils into an electromagnet which then turns the armature. When the armature coils are powered a magnetic field is created around the armature.

Yo, I'm overhauling a Valeo D6RA80. Removing and reinstalling the metal collar and spring clip @1:51 was a total pain, and it was pretty much unnecessary since cleaning the solenoid and the planetary gears is possible without removing the clip and the collar. Letting it stay in place will save a massive amount of time. The factory repair manual recommended cleaning the segments (mica) of the commutator just like on the video @2:26, so I did. I used CRC Mos2 Super Longterm Grease for lubrication where necessary. I accidentally installed the planetary gear cover @4:01 the wrong side up, so pay attention, it is correct on the video! Reinstalling the rear cover @5:27 was ultra challenging as the spring was pushing the base plate up and the brushes down, and the old, brittle base plate broke into pieces in the process so I had to order a new one (AS-PL PSX148-159H) before I could resume assembly. Hello sir can you help me please. I have gasoline opel ascona c engine 1.3l model I wanted to upgrade me starter motor with planetary gear set. But Im not shure if dizel opel starter motor fit to gasoline engine and is the engine rotation the same? I did tought modify some golf starter motor parts were nearly identical to mine bosch starter motor I disconected the ground brushes and put thick cabels to them so I can swap any direction I desire only problem that I have the bendix grwes are not the same . So do gasoline and disel wv starter motor bednix differ in rotation ? I like to advance me engine to much ignition timing so Im tired to fumel with me distributor . So I hope for any advice.

Right! I need to know how to install the spring at the end. I guess it goes in before the brushes and then pried up, brushes installed, and then allowed to hold the brushes down again. Reverse of removal.

так смазывать бендекс нельзя, там столько пыли, что смазка в корткие сроки превратиться в замазку! и бендекс заклинит. Тоже самое с сердечником втягивающего!
