I went back to the hardware store and got a male part for the hose. I made sure to hold the inner part of the hose and the exterior hose needed to make full contact. I couldn't get the two parts up all the way with the male attachment, so I added the entire end in the mostly cooled down warmer water and it helped reach the flat end of the male part. This allow my wrists not to be in so much pain *old gal here*. Thank you for this video as I am surely a new sub and can't wait for more improvements on our new home. Many hugs. ~*Shana

I was dreading to have to replace a 100' hose because I left the sprinkler on the end and it rusted on so completely that I can't turn it one bit. Thank you for such a good video on replacing the ends. And also for the good vs. cheap ones as well. New subscriber here!

Good video. Both the following type work. Home depot has similar. Barbed female (1/2" hose I.D.)for cheap pocket hose) are in plumbing section and Gimour clamp type male and female (only 5/8 hose I.D.) are in the gardening section by hoses.

I have tried them all. The one I find that works really well are sold at Wal-Mart, believe it or not. They are plastic and you screw one piece into the other making a really tight mend. They are yellow and black in color and are only two dollars and change.

I trim off the outer edge of the ferrule which essentially leaves the equivalent of the repair piece you purchased. Then the rest is the same; trim the hose, insert the connector, add the hose clamp.

nice video... better than boiling hot water is to dab the male brass barb end with a little silicone grease (like super lube) all across on the end, then the barb can be easily pushed in the hose with minimum effort. super lube silicone grease is a food grade grease and it would have no negative impact on your hands or on the garden..... Heating up the hose with boiling water will reduce its integrity over the long run.

I found a push on end at LOWE'S the other day, it's made by Orbit, it's made of plastic and cost about $3.00, I tryed it and it works great, didn't leak, easy to install no tools,
@GardeningProductsReview
@GardeningProductsReview 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience, Keith. I've found that over the long term those push-on ends don't last very long - they tend to blow off the end of the hose, especially if you have a hose nozzle attached and forget to turn off the water! (yes, it happened to me - found the spray nozzle about 10 feet away!).

Heat shrink tubing works great instead of electrical tape and will outlast the hose, can be purchased at Lowe's, homedepot
@GardeningProductsReview
@GardeningProductsReview 5 жыл бұрын
I never thought of that. Thanks for the suggestion, Keith! We use that stuff for electrical wiring so I don't see why it wouldn't work on a hose. I'll have to try it next time!

Thank you for helping me save my great hose. I would only change one thing and recommend that you buy a product with a clamp that doesn't reach out and cut you. Then, you wouldn't need to use electrical tape.

Thank you for the video. I followed your steps and repaired mine for the male end... But ..it's still leaking. I'm not sure what's going on. When I pushed the male end into the hose, it's sort of loose. It seems pretty tight in your video. I'm 100% sure its 5/8" .

Try warming it up. A hand torch or a good blow dryer on high for a few minutes. You don’t want the hose to melt, just shrink up a little.

Cool fix but I found a better product. It is made by Expert Gardner and called a Push-fit Male/Female hose mender for $2.75 All you have to do is to cut the hose correctly where needed and slide the mender piece in. No other tools required. They also have a coupler version in case the leak/repair is too far along the length of the hose and you do not want to end up with a shorter hose. This last one may not be too good of a solution if you have the hose inside a reel, because it may not reel-up perfectly.

Cheesy hose repair I would think by now there would be a better way to repair a hose end to look more like the crimped end of a new hose.

Totally agree. Sometimes I don't think hose companies want you to repair it - they'd rather have you buy a new hose.
