Update: Do this valve cleaning every year, or ever 20 days of use, which ever come first. Cleaning out the valves can be done in 2 minutes with a pair of pliers, at home or at camp. You will always be able to have the lowest flame setting. Wind not included

Watched your video and discovered that both valves on my Triton stove were full of that black "gunk". It feels more like a form of graphite, rather than grease. After cleaning and lubing my valve stems, I used a pipe cleaner to clean out the valve body. It was smothered in that gunk. Re-assembled my stove and voila, it will now adjust down to a steady simmer flame. Thanks for the informative video.

The actual answer is just to clean the very tip of the valve - the part that is just before the first o-ring once the valve is out. The black nasty "Chinese" grease is a really powerful GRAPHITE grease and it does it's job perfectly, the problem is that it is applied to the tip of the valve :) Thank you for the video and do not stress about having the "wrong" grease.
