Another great video. Thanks. I'm going to get after my 2016 Chev next spring. It really isn't bad now but once it starts... There are so many of these 07-13 trucks rusted at the wheel opening. My 2005 hasn't done it yet.

Yes, this body style unfortunately rusted very quickly, although the rockers seem to last longer than the previous body style

I use .023 wire,clip before every weld,and I use Viper Wet Rag heat blocker.I use it all the tine for my day job as an HVAC tech,and it is amazing stuff on brazed joints,so I figired I would try it for my welding projects.

In Minnesota at least, when they are spreading salt and gravel on the road, the spreader on the truck is on the drivers side so that they can make one pass and drop the salt and gravel almost down the center of the road, salting both lanes with one trip, but which results in more salt, and corrosion, on the drivers side of their vehicle.

I like to use the KBS cavity coat for the inner panels,I did my own tests and it stayed realky well.
@Johnnymidnight2 ай бұрын
The reason I don’t use cavity wax, I’ve cut panels out where it’s been used, and it seems that it works well, but only where it hit the panel. It doesn’t seem to seep into the seams.

Nice job...........be sure to coat those A/M parts with something on the inside, a porous primer is what led to the factory failures .........

Great job John I was wondering why there was no paint code on the truck 🍻

I’ve run into it a couple times on GM trucks, it actually had 19C in the paint code location, which doesn’t jive in my system, and google says is blue 🤷🏻♀️

Im wondering why you dont use your flange tool and make a flange for your new panel to sit in and to help out with warping

I’ve found that it tends to stretch and warp the metal, might just be the cheap tool that I have

How long do you leave the masking on after painting before removing it ?. I’m just wondering how you avoid peeling off the new paint when removing masking tape from around windows for example.
@Johnnymidnight2 ай бұрын
It always depends on what materials you’re using, temperature, etc. I usually unmask within probably 3 hours or so, or if painting at the end of the day they sit overnight. Always try to pull your tape away from the paint to reduce the risk of lifting a paint edge
@jeffglasman199 күн бұрын
How long do you need to Waite for the paint to dry or cure, before you can hit it with a polisher. And in the winter ,how long do you need to Waite or cure the paint before it can be put out in -20 below weather.
@Johnnymidnight9 күн бұрын
I usually let it sit overnight before polishing, same thing if it’s in a warm shop overnight, shouldn’t be a problem to put out in the cold

Would it be possible to use the welding mask lens clipped infront of the camera to show us the welding? I wonder if the welding lens is strong enough filter to not kill the sensor?

Thanks again, John. I was just wondering about the welding on the wheel arch. I think I saw that you don't weld it fully, only some tack welds and some small seams here and there. That's good enough in your experience with patch panels?
@Johnnymidnight2 ай бұрын
Definitely needs to be 100% welded, it’s usually just quite time consuming, and having to do a ton of small welds, takes more grinding and clean up

Isn't just grand to be vertically challenged, John maybe your dirt nibbs are coming off your ladder ? I hate having to drag a ladder around just to paint those roofs and hoods ! I had the same thing happen to me years ago on a Mitsubishi Lancer. It was a gray color but the pearls in it made a difference in the color, I didn't mix it the paint store did and I had a paint code and I found the difference when u masking it boy what a bummer.

Usually I use a small step ladder each side, but I ran one over last week 😂. I’ve since picked up another, so I don’t have to use the bigger one.
