just wanted to say thank you because today- I, a 47 yr old lady on the internet switched out my linkage, all on my own, no help. I even used the old transmission and just put it on the new linkage. @@HomeOwnerRepair hey, so this did not go precisely as planned. Everything works, but the wipers resting point is now halfway up the windshield. It's not calibration, they go all the way down and then go back up. Any ideas? I even had a mechanic out. he thought it might be a programming issue. But how?

This worked for me. I used the original wiper motor, had my wife hold the hood open, and everything worked. Thanks for the clear explanation and demonstration. Mine failed in exactly the same way, at the passenger side crank arm.

FYI, you can remove and install with the covers off and the hood closed. One man job. I just did it.

The comment at 9:57 indicating that re-installation of the assy requires the motor to be at the as shipped wiper-center (aka wipers pointed up) position is important. And the helper's reaction to the prior incorrect comment was also eminently entertaining.

helpful but...you do not have to pin back the hood. just close it after you take the cowl plastic off. plenty of room to get it out and in. i took the motor off with it still in the cowl (i have small hands) but it can still come out with the motor and the hood closed. definitely takes a bit of wiggling it in and out. video def helped with the angles to remove. thanks!

If may be an issue with the switch because the wiper switch controls the motor speeds. Hope this helps you out.

Any advice on my issue at hand? I have an 03 Expedition. I replaced the wiper motor by removing the entire assembly as shown in the video, and reinstalled the transmission and motor. However the transmission isn't moving at all? I can hear the motor trying but seems like the transmission is seized almost. Could this have been because I didn't reset the transmission links before attaching the new motor and then putting it all back? Any help would be great, thank you.

Make the wiper transmission linkage isn't binding or coming into contact with something that may be preventing it from moving.

I figured it out today. The transmission links we oriented in the wrong direction. My driver side was getting jammed into the firewall which was preventing it from moving. After some tedious rotation of the motor to get the transmission set into the correct spot, I was able to get it reinstalled and operating successful. This video was certainly a big help for someone who isn't the most mechanically inclined.

Probably remove the wipers. Turn the wiper switch on and then shut the switch off, this should be in the parked position. Then reattach the wiper arms. Let me know if this worked.
