A very rough how to change 3rd generation Camaro brakes.
If you have anything to add please put it in the comments. Like spin the hub when tightening the castle nut.

When bleeding brakes do NOT! crack the bleeder open then pump the breaks lol and a second person is basically mandatory. You pump the brake first and hold it down while a second person cracks the bleeder open and Do not let off the break until they close the bleeder and repeat several times atleast till you got good pedal.

Great video but where did you find the rear caliper with the spring loaded parking brake bracket attached? I bought new calipers for my 92 Z but they didn't come with the bracket. I tried removing the bracket off the old ones but it's nearly impossible because the slide bolts are completely froze up. Do they sell the bracket new?

I like the video but you don't show the bearings being installed. seems like that was the main point.

They will just sit in the bearing races, no hard pressing, just plop them in. But the bearing races have to be pressed in if they aren't installed

In what order? Race/bearing/seal. Bearing/race/seal. Bearing into race then into rotor? Why does No one show the most important part?

My 62 f -100 when I purchased it had a 75-81 f body / Camaro subframe , (the inside bearings fit correct but When I got to the outside bearing , the new one seemed a bit smaller, I have never been aware that it had to be anyway but simply placed , but these would have had to be pressed or hammered with old race or socket , is that how yours is?

You torque the front wheel bearing to 12 FT LB while spinning the wheel then back the nut 1 flat before inserting the cotter pin. The info is in Section 3 (Suspension) of the 1970 Service/Overhaul Supplement Manual. I know yours isn’t a 70 Z28 like mine but it’s the same wheel/hub type rotor. When you bleed your brakes, you pump 1st about 5x’s, then while the pedal is still pressed down you open the bleed screw to let the air and old fluid out, then close the bleed screw then tell the helper they can lift off of the brake pedal. Then repeat until no air bubbles are present. Note, keep an eye on the level of brake fluid you have in the master cyl and top up if needed. Never bleed brakes with the master cyl cover off.

I tried that... but maybe my spindle is defective because I had to tighten the nut quite a lot more to have no play in there. If I just tighten it the way it says in the manual, I always feel and hear kind of a clonk. Even when I took it to my mechanic, he would tighten the nut - in my opinion - too much. It did work though, but I think, that after 1-2 years maximum I'll have to replace my bearing again. Something is just wrong with my spindle, I guess.

Can confirm that the 1992 Camaro service manual says the same thing. 12ft lbs and not more than 1/2 flat

How do you know for sure how to which/direction to install that seal(oil seal)
@alloyspeed1889

Yea like to see the bearings and the seal installed, was not to clear how the front get installed and how the seal goes on, it has 2 different sides, guessing the open side goes in but your video does not show it, guess you assume everyone has done this before and should already know. If we had we wouldn't need to watch a video, guess I'll check another mechanic video that shows these missing steps.

If I can remember it's a brake package that came with the car. 1le brake package, I think that they are also double piston calipers too. Taking the wheel off and taking a quick measurement would give you a ball park idea too.

There not even blocks of wood! They're 2x4's nailed together!
@vickikgibson9470
@vickikgibson9470 4 жыл бұрын
Which will work perfectly well if nailed correct! I have used such for years, and when nailed right, with good wood, they will last. In fact, a BLOCK of word can dry out and split under weight, which I don't like..the 2x4's (watching the grain curve of the wood when put together, are actually much better and stronger. Which is why plywood is stronger than a regular slab of wood. Just FYI> . Having worked in wood for years, I do know the value of layered wood. I also add glue to mine, which then makes them laminated as well. :)

@@fiddlerpin a block of wood will hold more weight than a jack stand.. and with the recent events that are happening with Jack stand manufacturers... I'd trust that block of wood any day of the week over a jack stand... a smart person would use both plus a jack and a wheel under the car... can't get any more protected than that
