This helped me SO much! Usually, I watch several "How To" videos until I find one that makes sense and is concise. I found this one first, watched it once and then successfully put on a new cable. Thank you!!

So very helpful. Once I got it apart, I didn't need the rest of the video, but watched it anyway (after I was done). I was doing my rear wheel, but this gave me the info I needed. Only thing I was missing was a good pair of wire cutters, which my roommate's toolbox provided for me. I still need to do the front brake, but my rear brakes needed new pads and the wire was rusted and frayed and they had gone completely out on me the other day. That's what I get for not immediately assessing the bike when it came to me. $30 for new cables, pads, and front tube. Not bad considering that the average bike shop charges $100 for a tube change and lord-knows-how-much for pads and cables and I'd have to likely leave my bike for a day or overnight.

Great! Clear and concise, good camera angles Everyone creating guides to repair or install something should watch this first to see how it ought to be done. Most such guides are three times longer than needed, because they haven't been thought out beforehand nor edited afterwards, you have to watch a load of waffle before the useful stuff starts.

Thanks this was a great help. The final brake adjustment is a little tricky and you need the right kind of cable cutter, otherwise the cable end will become frayed making it difficult to thread through the casing.

You did a great job with this video. Now I hope I can apply this knowledge to my bikes cables. I have a citizen folding bike, I think my brakes are too tight, the front wheel won't spin freely. The brake pads are touching the rim of the tire without me touching the handbrakes. It just happened after I unfolded the bike, maybe the cables are tangled. It's too dark outside, so I'll need to wait until the morning to troubleshoot this problem.

I have an hybrid/trekking bicycle made in germany (brand Bergamont) and i would like to buy a pair of brake cables online in order to be able to replace the old ones. My questions are: 1) "What do I have to look for in terms of length of the cable, diameter of the cable, ?connectors?, and materials the cable is made from? 2) If I have, say, two rear cables (usual/standard lengh 2.5 mt?), can one of them become a front cable (just by cutting it shorter I guess)? 3) When they write 'universal cable', can/shall I then be fairly confident that the cable is suitable/fit for my bicycle (whatever its make or model)? Thank you for your help,

Hi , I had the same problem and I discovered that the barrel ended nipple on my cable was only 6 mm instead of the usual 7 mm thus meaning it was too loose in the lever retainer.
