How to replace a broken Bonnet release latch and cable on BA/BF Falcon (step by step).

Good way to avoid the handle snapping is to put your thumb on the hinge part of the pull handle when opening it. It takes the stress off the plastic housing.

Excellent video mate! Yep filled in all the gaps that the other videos have left out, especially the part for how to feed the new cable through to the bonnet catch ie loosen the radiator support. I originally chose to swear at it profusely and gave up until I found your video, thanks heaps mate! 👍

Well worth doing for the ease of opening bonnet in a rush! Pliers pulling on the cable works.. But it's easier to just fandangle a working flap 😜

do not have to remove complete scuff panel, just undo two push in clips , front and rear of kick panel section. pull towards pedals too access removal of cable. do not have too at all remore than what i said , replaced dozons and quickly without the extra not needed work.

Not sure why you needed to pull off the rear door scuff plates... the front yes, to get to the kick panel. Annoyed I will have to drop a wheel and wheel arch trim to get to it though.

Nice work! But what was Ford thinking attaching the bonnet release lever to the fusebox? I bought a BA Falcon ute recently, pulled the lever for the first time and it immediately fell off... 🤔

Absolutely! Surely Ford came up with the design as an afterthought after designing the dash. Ahh rotten luck. Apparently Ford made a revised latch to replace the original to alleviate the problematic originals.

Thanks mate, no dramas. Get some pliers mate and pull on the metal part of the cable that usually sits inside the flap under the dash that would unlatch the bonnet. It'll pop open the bonnet open.

Is it possible to just remove the damaged plastic release lever and attach a new one to the current cable?

It might be possible mate. Although from memory this aftermarket one I put in.. The way it holds the cable and pulls it is different to the original one. So it may not work. But if you can get just a handle on its own give it a shot. If you have to buy both cable and handle together atleast you have back up cable and handle ready to go if the new handle can't attach to the old cable.

So your plastic pull release handle has snapped off? Are you able to pull the cable with pliers?

@@FordMercGuy it feels like it come loose. It feels like I could pull the whole cable from the dash. I have it booked for repair, but that is a few weeks away. I’m worried if the battery goes, I have not way of accessing the engine bay.

If you brace the plastic part that's remaining with left hand firmly and pull with pliers with right hand, the bonnet will come undone. Use quick force.

Use a set of locking pliers or standard pliers and pull the metal bonnet cable from under driver side dash mate. The bonnet will pop open👍

Hi mate. My bonnet release worked fine fine until I installed a new bonnet. Now the bonnet release is very hard to the point where I'm afraid it's gonna snap. Is there any way I can loosen the cable? Thanks.

I'm unsure mate, maybe you can look at either end of the cable and see if you can loosen the bolted points like on the bonnet catch area. It's been a while since I've done the job on the car for this vid sorry mate.

Thanks to your video I was able to do it on my own. if I had to take it to a mechanic, who knows what I'd be charged, at least 200. I got it done even cheaper as I haggled the ford bloke down to 50 bucks 😆Thanks again for your videos.

I wish i'd never bought a BA. Electric window cable replaced, window stuck open. Radiator replaced, leaking. Ball joints replaced, worn out, gear box replaced and engine chemically cleaned out, intercooler leak, This problem, broken cable. still broken. Passenger window glass off window rail, And now gear linkage bush worn out, replaced twice and still slips off gear selector nub on box so cant change gears. $20 piece of plastic that will leave you stranded. Any one wanna buy a BA?

In our family we've owned four BA Falcons and only one of them had idling issues as it's main problem. Sometimes some cars have just had a harder Life Less maintenance and maybe also bad luck. But damn that selector issue mate!!

Wrong battery fitted. Should be 5375.

Yeah, we should both tell the previous owner that had installed it. When it needs replacing will be going with the oem recommended specs as I always choose for my cars
