2:11 The white plastic item, with the gap in it, at the top right of the fuse box - to the left of the OBDII plug. That is a peg tool for removing the fuses. It just pulls out of the fusebox and fits over the fuse. Gets the fuse out without risking damaging the plastic top of the fuse - that a pair of pliers might. It can be missing from many cars. You're lucky you still have yours.

Nice job. I am just about to change my steering wheel and was stuck on the airbag - great tip re. fuse. I don't have the tool to pull it out, but the young guys at the wreckers just pulled it out of the donor car. I'll see how I go without the tool. Thanks again.

How did you go removing the steering wheel without a tool?
@SureshBopitiya3 жыл бұрын
@@scottneulist9495 once I removed the airbag cables and the nut, I pulled the wheel, prising it loose till it came off. Wasn't too difficult!

If you're worried about hot steering wheel, you can get steering wheel sunshade covers cheap, same reflective material as for windscreen shade. I have two, one goes on my pod guages and second one underneath to cover colour ICC screen & headdeck so doesn't get damaged from sun&heat!

Faark lads, I need your help. 2003 ford falcon xr6 BA . None of the controls on the steering wheel are working (horn, volume, set, mode etc). Ran a multimeter across all fuses and are fine. Could it be the steering wheel??

This is too late for you now, but when the wheel is turned, and let go as the key is removed, it is jammed hard against the steering lock pin. The wheel naturally tries to turn back to the straight ahead position. That is why the key can't be turned. The solution is to turn the wheel a bit more in the same direction, so it is not resting hard against the lock. The key will then be released. Even if the wheel is a 'full lock' in one direction, there is usually enough 'give' on the bump stops to wiggle the wheel to free the key lock. Same thing happens if an auto trans is put into Park on a hill. The load from the hill jams the shifter lever. If really badly jammed, the solution is to rock the car a bit back and forth. Not easy on a hill, but it will release the load on the shifter, and let it move. To prevent this from happening, the hand brake is put on first, while the transmission is in neutral, then Park is selected. The load is on the handbrake. The handbrake will release regardless of a load on it or not.
@scottneulist94953 жыл бұрын
@@railtrolley Thanks for the information about the park brake. I find I always have that issue. Should you release the brake so the handbrake catches the load before putting it into park?
@railtrolley3 жыл бұрын
@@scottneulist9495 Yes, that is the way to do it. Shift into Neutral, park brake on, let go of the main brake pedal, then shift into Park. Do it that way and you will never have a jammed gear shifter on a hill. BTW the park brake should only need a couple of clicks on, to hold the vehicle. Any more and the cable has stretched and needs adjusting. The park brake is cable operated and does stretch over time. The best way this is done is at the wheels. Many shops don't like doing park brake adjustments as it is a PITA of a job. The wheels have to come off, and the adjuster is reached through a tiny hole on the brake drum or disc. I adjust my own. I'm not sure how the new cars with automatic or electric park brakes work. Seems like another way to make something more complicated and likely to go wrong.

I’ve done this job a few times, I normally find that if you leave the 50 torx screw in the last few threads and pull on the steering wheel rim from one side then the other, when it comes off the torx screw will stop it hitting you in your face !also if it’s that tight you need a puller don’t put centre screw from puller into threaded hole of steering column shaft or you risk ruining thread !

Natalie Rowe you gotta remove the air bag exactly like he did, then just remove the stereo and cruise control button and install new ones. What i done was went to some wreckers and got clean button and ripped the old one off and gently put the new buttons in
