How to replace a broken or scratched GoPro Hero 8 lens!

although I ordered the replacement lens & it's sitting right there, I've found the cracked lens on my gopro 8 doesn't effect the video unless the video is pointed directly at the sun, but that hardly happens so I haven't swapped the lens yet

Thank you for the information, using isopropyl alcohol may have disolved the glue to help remove it, personnaly i would have heated the new glass a little bit just to make sure that the new glue as melted, thank you for your time !

Heat might help a bit, yes, though it should be good with just some pressure. It's a similar adhesive to what is used in the gopro mounts.

@@MactacFPV It's mostly just rock pits and a couple of chips on the very edge of the glass. Unfortunately the pits show up in the images now. I'm just so grateful there was a way to fix it without buying a whole new GoPro! I'm more bummed that I didn't get a decent shot of the damage happening (because it was a timelapse). Would have at least been worth it to upload a "fail" video, LOL.

Good video. In regards to the waterproofing its suggested to use the protective housing with the gopro8. Currently dealing with replacing my water damaged gopro8. The reason I sought out this video is bc the replacenent camera appears to have sand under the lens cover. Looks like I'll be asking for another replacement 😞

The more heat you use, the easier it is to get off. I find that you have to keep re-heating it. Il the adhesive is designed to release en it’s heated.

It should be fine as long as you don't have a heat gun right up against the plastic. Aim at the glass from above, and stop when the glass is almost too hot to touch.

I like the 9 better, however it is bigger and heavier. It depends on how much weight is a factor for you mainly. Also the 9 is easier to replace the lens.

No it doesn't degrade the quality - actually what you are removing is not part of the real lens, it's just a protective barrier. The lens is farther inside the camera.

Possibly - however that would be a great way to get a lot of moisture in the lens compartment, which might make everything fog up as soon as you get into cold air (?)

@@MactacFPV As long as the glas is not broken there should not get any ater in while heating the glue. But I agree there is a risc of moisture getting in.

​@@mauricemahieu1392 The adhesive in the GoPro doesn't work very well when submerged in hot water - (that's exactly why we use heat to release it.) By submerging in hot water, you are reducing the adhesion, which makes a much greater chance of water getting in. I would avoid doing this and just borrow a hair dryer or heat gun if possible.
