Thank you walpopfa for the video, the tape trick worked like a charm! I don't know how the fuck I would have got that back on without dropping/losing it behind the engine somewhere. By the way, this is the exact same operation for the 2001 ML55 AMG which what I just replaced the CPS on.

i had 10 codes with ml320, after i replaced my CPS , it went down to 2 error codes, and the car ran normal.

Be careful when disconnecting the battery. It may scramble your security code which will require a visit to the dealer. If it prevents it from starting, you can add in a tow bill too! This was a very helpful video, Thanks!

You don't have to disconnect battery. Make sure ignition is not on. That's it.

Nice job. The CPS on also accessible on the ML320 by removing the wheel and lining.

It's much much easier like that.

What about the 2006-up bmws?? They put the cranksensor under the starter motor. So the intake manifold have to com out. Bmw more fucked up bro. But i love BMW.

My 2001 ml 430 starts drives for a little while than shuts down. Car does not start just cranks. I leave it for about an hour or so and it starts right up again. Drive a mile or so and it happens again. Is this the Crankshaft postion sensor doing this? How can you test the CPS?

For my Mercedes Benz ML350 2004, the bolt has spikey parts to the sides of it. A 1/4" socket with some WD-40 did the job. Tape trick carried us lol.

omg this is insanity. If I didn't come to see this video I would not know how ridiculously impossible this is going to be for me on Thursday. I don't know if I can do this. I probably try to drive to the dealer and pay them.

Disconnect the positive post, not negative. And disconnecting the battery isn't necessary replacing this part as it's not powered till you turn the car on.
@pillayw12611 жыл бұрын
Hopefully you have sorted this problem by now but in case you have not, is your check engine light on? If so, you need to get the codes read. It sounds like your Mass Air Flow sensor is malfunctioning but without the codes, I cannot be sure.

will this work for ml430?
@moocow669910 жыл бұрын
Yes sir. the ML430 uses the M113 V8, while the ML320 uses the M112 V6. These engines are identical apart from cylinder configuration. Otherwise, it's the same procedure.

Have you every had a hard time removing the CPS? Mine feels like there is still a bolt holding it on. I have removed the 8MM Torx from under it. It wiggles a little but will not come out. I did crack the housing on it slightly. The car starts fine still, just will stall on it's on once it's warmed up... then starts fine about 30 minutes or so later.
@rbschumbos10 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill. It's normal to be difficult to remove this sensor, even after the bolt is removed, specially if it's old. It fits very tight and some dried oil and dirt makes things a bit more difficult. Keep rocking it and try to twist it at the same time. Some WD-40 may help. I replaced mine a couple of months ago. The symptoms was exactly as you described. The car starts fine, stalls once it's warmed up and only starts again after cooling down about 30 minutes later. After replacement, all symptoms are gone.
@clientsupport110 жыл бұрын
Thanks! This site is truly helpful. I did get it to come off... very snug to say the least. It took me quite a few tries before it started to wiggle... and then it slid right out. Putting the new one in came with resistance but went it. Car is back to its incredible self again. $35 for the part!
@markusfarmer16863 жыл бұрын
@@rbschumbos That’s exactly what my 2003 ml500 is doing. Even gets across town then just tries to turn over and won’t crank. After a new battery and starter plus a tow I hope this fixes it. Do you have to take off fire wall heat shield??

@@markusfarmer1686 long starts when hot, but it didn't help. My friend had the same issue but in his case it helped. In my case injectors are leaking or fuel pressure valve is bad.

@@pirate2998 Went out today just to see if it would fire it did ran and died got a “start error” code on dash so now I’m like is this crank position sensor even going to do anything . Down to my last really need something to just work willing to do any job just not sure what to do I can’t afford a carsoft scanner..
@pirate29983 жыл бұрын
@@markusfarmer1686 In your case it can be anything, seems like problem with fuel or air (in most cars is bad MAP/MAF sensor or it's sucking air from somewhere). So check air check fuel and you will see what's wrong.
@pirate29983 жыл бұрын
If you disconnect MAP/MAF and it's bad, it will run and will not die. Next thing to check is Oxygen sensors (lambda).

Nice video! May I ask what was the reason why you replaced your CPS? What were the symptoms that your car showed that made you change it? Thanks in advance.
