Done this lots of times at the junkyard on crown vics. I'd recommend threading the T50 bolt a few threads, pry up againt the bottom of the wheel with your knees and with your left hand. Tap the bolt with a 3lb hammer a few times and it will come right out. That way it doesnt get bent slightly, and the bolt prevents the wheel from hitting you in the face.

I don't know about that lol. I've seen steering wheels that were so stuck it would snap off pullers. Even seen some where you have to drill out the hub of the wheel to weaken it enough to break loose. They can be super stuck.

The real question is if you can put cruise control in these.
@PNW_Car_Mods10 ай бұрын
From what I have read the answer is yes. It has to be activated first through. Not sure if Forscan is capable of doing it? or if it has to be done with a dealer tech laptop. I was kicking myself when I found out the day after we did this job that we could have converted it to cruise.
@PanzerPlatform4 жыл бұрын
Yo Mr. Black and Isacc, That's so cool. I've never had to take my steering wheel off yet. If you wanted to, could you have gotten a wheel with the cruise control buttons, and then enable them with the FORscan? I've never seen anybody actually do it. Also the WeatherTech mats look nice. They look shiny too. -Chuck

@PNW_Car_Mods7 ай бұрын
I can't say for absolute certain but I can't think of a reason why not either. Also, supposedly if you have a P71 or a P7B they can be programmed to make the cruise control work if you put in a factory wheel with buttons. I would have done that to this car but didn't know it was a thing at the time.

You are my man. Great video. Thank you for showing us. My steering wheel just went bad. The front tires are not responding. First it was sticking and each time it did that I had to put more force to turn it till something happened, something broke inside? Something was grabbing it. Now the whole steering wheel turns 360 degrees with one finger whether the engine is on or on and I still dont know what it is. I had to take it on a flat bed to the mechanic today. It is a headache. I hope it is nothing serious or too expensive.
@PNW_Car_Mods3 жыл бұрын
You may have broke something in the column shaft down at the steering box or rack depending on year. If you can post up what they find out. Very dangerous that could have been for you.
@cac75493 жыл бұрын
@@PNW_Car_Mods Hi I called the tow truck and had it towed to a mechanic who worked on the steering wheel most of the day today. He removed the entire column with the steering wheel. He said that it comes in one entire piece. He tried calling to see if there was another steering column with the steering wheel around and there was none so he took it out, put it upside down on the floor, took out from the floor of the car what looked like a long pin that goes into the bottom of the steering column shaft. There was a green plastic ring on the pin which he hammered into the hollow tube of the steering column. The plastic ring kept it in place. There was a metal triangular piece on top of the plastic ring which is the part that he hit with the hammer to push the pin inside. He commented that he had never seen anything like that on Crown Vics that the pin and hollow tube of the steering column would separate. He said that may be the pieces separated from hitting lots of potholes which I have. He guaranteed that his work would last me a long time, but I am trying to buy a used steering column for the same car, just in case it happens again. It was dangerous yes because I was turning the steering wheel to the left at an intersection in the city and the car was moving to the right. I was turning slow so I was lucky it did not happen on the highway. I was taken by surprise. It did have symptoms. The steering wheel would stick and each time it did I would put more and more force on it. I also felt like something was biting underneath and hitting something in the column. It turned out to be that green plastic ring around the tip of the pin which he hammed into the hollow piece of the steering column. The plastic ring kept both pieces tight into one single piece. In 4 decades that I have driving I have never had this happened before. It looks like not everything on a Crown Vic is reliable. Sorry if the description of the problem is not precise with the names of the parts, but I think I made it clear for everyone to see.

Great vid. I want to swap the wheel from my ‘06 with steering wheel controls and cruise into my ‘11 CVPI and this makes it look mostly do-able. Except I’m concerned about what extra wires I’m gonna have, and what to do with them. Little more research required, hah.
@PNW_Car_Mods3 жыл бұрын
From what I understand you can put the cruise wheel into the 2011 P7B and all the wiring is already in place. It needs to be activated by a Ford Tech computer though for the buttons to respond.

We got this one from Tasca Auto Parts. We looked on Ebay for a while but most of the wheels we found on there were worn enough with a price to high it made sense to just buy a new one.
@user-ic3ou6vq1b10 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, if the steering shaft has separated from the column and the wheel has spun more than six times, the clock spring wires will wrap tight around those spring locks and make them impossible. Had to cut slots in the wheel to access and release the air bag.
@PNW_Car_Mods10 ай бұрын
I have definitely heard of this happening before. On almost all brands and models of cars this can happen.

@PNW_Car_Mods2 жыл бұрын
Just didn't know at the time Ben. Or probably would have. That being said this car is now a 5 speed manual car and having cruise ads a whole nother complexity to the wiring and pedal box switches so I am kind of glad we don't have cruise.

@PNW_Car_Mods4 жыл бұрын
There is a fella on youtube that did this exact thing. I cant' remember the channel. I didn't know this was possible until after we did this job or I would have bought a cruise wheel. I think it takes the ford tech computer to enable cruise. Not sure it can be done with Forscan. Maybe it can but I don't know. Regardless it is possible to activate the cruise.

Been hitting mine with a Mallet and pulling with my knees for an hour but no luck. I bought two steering wheel puller’s and they were junk. The bolt was to short and would never reach.
@PNW_Car_Mods2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you are on the right track but need to get even more aggressive with it. Most people have very little luck with pullers. I think you can actually put more force into it with your hand and arms than you can with your knees. you need to really rock it back and fourth to break that taper in the hub free.
@PNW_Car_Mods2 жыл бұрын
Also you may want to try the tip from down below in the comments where a guy said to load the wheel up with a knee and your free hand and take you other hand and hit the slightly loosened bolt with a hammer tapping into the column shaft.
