In this video, I replace the clutch and slave cylinder in my wife's 2015 Nissan Versa Note, and make it go from no shifty to shifty again. This process should be the same for all 2013-2019 Versas and Versa Notes with the 1.6 liter engine.
Here is an Amazon link* for the clutch kit I used (includes clutch disc, pressure plate, and slave cylinder): amzn.to/3OAkn6s

Thank you for this video. It encouraged me to do it myself. Had same issue with slave cylinder on Sentra 2013. With hand tools it took me 21 hours to finish. I never worked on car before besides oil change and struts replacement. Next time I think I would do it in 8. In my local shop they estimated $2200 for this job with parts( clutch kit + master + slave). Greetings from LA!

@JK Feather Ranch. I just replaced my clutch, pressure plate, and release bearing on my 2009 Nissan Versa base sedan. Your car has the same transmission and clutch system mine does and basically the exact subframe. Your video is spot on and even works for my 2009. I bought my clutch from Autozone with no issues for those reading. The air baffling is slightly different and a few fuse boxes are placed in other areas on my older 2009, but everything else is spot on. Thanks for the terrific video and I hope you see this comment! Nice video. Thanks for posting. I'm replacing the slave (incarcerated) cylinder on my 2007 Versa. It's similar to what you're working on. It's helpful to get the socket sizes you're using, grease used on the drive shafts, etc. I've made (several) trips to the local shop to expand my tool collection. I've also found that a bunch of other parts needed to be replaced. I started the project back in January 2021. My son found that the gear selection cables could be released by pushing them back towards the firewall, rather than prying them up.
@jkfeatherranch

Sorry I did not even think about mentioning the socket sizes, mainly because I don't remember them when I'm editing the video. Grease was Lucas Red and Tacky, I use it for pretty much everything that requires grease.

Great Video! I just finished replacing the transmission and the slave cylinder. After button up everything and took it out for a test drive. Noticed a few drip of brake fluid from the same location as your car. I hope is not the slave cylinder because it was brand new. I am hoping is the o-ring on the tube that feeds the slave cylinder. Thanks for making this video! I've got a 2008 versa and your video is the closest year that I can find. 2008 is Gen 1 so some stuff is different. Driver cv axle came out fine. Passenger cv axle is stuck. I even unbolted the mount that the bearing is in but I can't get the axle out of the transmission. Any idea how to get it out with just a rubber mallet and a few giant flathead screwdrivers? I've spent all my money on parts so I can't afford more tools. And I use this car for work so I'm trying to get it done tomorrow. :) thanks again

No issues with alignment since I put everything back the way it came off. That's exactly why I didn't remove the ball joints or anything. You can resurface the pressure plate if you want or yours is bad; I didn't go that far because the clutch was fine, just the slave cylinder had failed.

The 13th Amendment made slavery illegal, except as a form of punishment (wonder if that has any relation to the Unites States' disproportionate incarceration rate, nah probably just a coincidence), so I'd prefer if you'd call it an incarcerated cylinder. Thanks.

As a stand up citizen with a past incarceration, I was never a slave in the system. I had 2 free meals daily, room and board free of charge, shower time, access to equipment or at least space to partake in physical activities and improve my physical fitness, free dental, visual and health care and I studied regularly without ever having to work a second while in the system. Slavery? Idk about that. More like a vacation you can't leave from temporarily to help you reflect on your current situation and what to do to better yourself. Sometimes you do have to participate in some violent activities and always have to be aware of everyone and everything around you, but that can be said of any vacation anywhere, take a safari vacation for example.....

no kidding. I just did the master and slave cylinder on my 2006 sentra and it took less than 30 minutes. but's the mileage is over 270K so I was looking for a newer car (preferably nissan). however, I think I will steer clear on the versa. are other car manufacturers putting the slave cylinder inside the transmission housing?

@@jkfeatherranch does it need to be removed to prevent damage to it? (I will be using homemade Equpment jack to support and lower the transmission)

If you can support the transmission without damaging it, then it probably doesn't have to be removed. I did because it was a piece that sticks out and I was just relying on brute strength and sore arms to pull the transmission out.

OK, the video has a bunch of helpful information, although when showing the nuts and bolts to take off sometimes you have to figure out where this nut or bolt is as he doesn't tell you. Then when putting the clutch plate in he uses an impact driver (he just destroyed the plate), but uses a torque wrench on wheel lug nuts ... WTF???

BTW the wheel lug nuts are 83 foot-pounds not 100

Literally finding 6 videos just to see how to remove the CV shaft, and you just pried it out. But then didn't show the other side... maddening... it's different on the other side.

The slave cylinder is placed inside the transmission box. What an example of bad engineering mr nissan :)

Nissan likes to do things like that. In the Xterra they have a coolant pipe routed through a hole in the timing cover which makes the whole thing very hard to remove and put back. Putting it back is even harder than removing. Thank you Nissan.
