I honestly had low expectations. I’m a retired boomer, ex mechanic, tech line guy. This was a great video ! Very well done. I did the filter on my Mountaineer today, expecting the pump might be next. Thanks for such a well done instructional video.

Extremely helpful! I can't thank you enough for this video. I replaced my 2008 4.0.L Explorer gas tank due to a cracked leaking filler/check valve fitting. I was able to replace, put in a new fuel pump, and filter on a Sunday afternoon because of the thoroughness of this video. Thanks again.

Very well done video. Love it! About the only thing I could add is that while you have the gas tank off the car, it would be a great time to clean out the fuel tank with some fuel tank cleaner, as well as replace your evap canister since it's very likely clogged up after a quarter million miles. This way you get the whole shebang done in one fell swoop. I love how you replaced the fuel filter at the same time, many others forget this important step.

New fuel pump should be here Thursday, this was an excellent, complete, and thorough video, so I hope the points made here stick in my mind when it's time to drop my tank. You answered a few questions I had in my mind after crawling under last night. Wheels don't have to come off. Side step doesn't have to come off. I need a 12 point 12mm socket and I do NOT need any special tools to undo any of the fuel fittings. However I might need smaller fingers, so the wife may be recruited to help get some of those fittings undone. Instead of dropping the tank with 9-10 gallons of fuel in it, I will attempt to siphon that fuel out with the copper jiggler thing Harbor Freight sells into a couple 5 gallon jugs. If nothing else, I can throw that fuel in the wife's car so she can save some bucks and I can save my back.

Great video. I have to drain my tank and planning on doing that by removing the inlet hose. I understand there is a check valve. Is it in the tank opening or how do I continue so fuel comes out. Thanks for a quick response.

Just found your site. You are very articulate and a good teacher. Don't think I want to tackle this job as my car was probably a flood damage product and there is a lot of rust in the undercarriage. Also would need to buy another floor jack and jack stands. Good luck with your KZbin adventure. Stan S

when reinstalling, be conscious of where the filler vent line is so you don't let it get pinched. because i let mine pinch 🤬. Was only able to fill about 2 gal at a time before having to wait almost a whole minute to add more. I wasn't able to get back under there to fix it for about 3 weeks due to rain and having to do my work outside 😅

I followed your tutorial step by step it made it a complete breeze, thank you for this video. I replaced my pump with a Bosch unit and my filter with a Duralast. Got everything back together, surprisingly easy. Imagine my surprise when I fill the tank and the gauge is still at empty and my warning screen still indicates every ten minutes. Any idea where to look next?

Plug in a scanner to the OBD port and see if it has a reading for fuel level. If it does then your cluster is the problem

@@iamdjnam no, it didn’t. Between the gauge not working and 186k on the odometer, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to replace this unit. Most of the research I’ve done said that the floats go bad over time.

I remember on one of your older videos you mentioned having a pre oiler for your explorer. I’d like to do the same, instead of having to do the flood method on startup when it gets cold out. Did you buy a kit or build it yourself? Just got a 2010 explorer with the 4.0 and want to take care of it how I can!

if i were you i'd see what i could do to fix the engine. But the transmission is something i'd replace. That engine isn't to bad to work on. Because of Platinum Garages channel iv'e been able to replace the timing stuff, head and rear main seal. not to hard, you just have to be careful and take your time

Of course, there are some guys who remove the back seat, cut an opening in the floor just over the pump access hatch, and remove the pump that way. They then epoxy some kind of patch over the opening when they're done. Swapping out the pump and/or the sender this way sure saves a lot of under-vehicle acrobatics, knuckle-busting, and other heroics (some of us aren't so young and agile anymore), but I suppose you'd frown on doing is this way. I mean, you wouldn't be able to so any pressure washing, would you? 😄
@iamdjnam Жыл бұрын
Bro I’ve done that on junker parts trucks when people ask for the sending unit lmaooo
@tcarney57 Жыл бұрын
@@iamdjnam Okay, I'll take that as a sign of disapproval. On two separate occasions, I had to replace the sender and the in-tank pump (the main high-pressure pump was outside the tank) on the Volvo 240 wagon that was my daily driver back then. It was very convenient to just unscrew the access cover the Swedes provided so the tank didn't have to be dropped. Pulling out the spare tire and folding back a piece of carpeting--while remaining upright in the back of the car--was almost enjoyable. I kept that car for over 435,000 miles. I wish I had it back, and I'm glad Ford didn't screw up Volvo in the short time they owned it ("Fiord"). Actually, maybe they did. I don't know anything about Volvos since 2000. I _do_ know about Fords since then. My 2005 V6 Explorer is an example. A far cry from the '74 Mustang I put 200,000 miles on. V6, gear-driven cam timing--no chains or belts. Carburetor, distributor with points, cam-driven diaphragm fuel pump. It ran as smooth as a clock.
