Thanks to both of you!! I would never have had the courage to do this job without such a comprehensive video. Other than having a Z51 Manual which has some more "stuff" in the way, along with long tube headers which caused an issue getting out the starter, I followed this step by step and VIOLA! Job done! I wish all the videos out here were as comprehensive, showing part/tool numbers, and great quality visuals!

This week I got my '03 C5 back from the shop to have the harmonic balancer replaced. The original one was starting to separate. There's no way I would attempt this job. I paid $900 to have it done. I'm 70 years old and don't have a lift. I also don't have some of the tools needed to do this.

You NEVER want to beat on an aluminum control arm to loosen a tie rod end. ALWAYS use a separator like you did in the video.

The C5 is the same so the problem goes back to 97'. Everything looked pretty much the same as I remembered doing on my C5 except I might have removed the radiator for extra room. I didn't have that nice little short puller shown here. 😁

Glad I watched your video and I'm glad I didn't attempt this repair myself -- I'm a weekend mechanic. LOL. I'm happy to pay someone like you to replace my harmonic balancer on my 2005 Corvette (with only 27500 miles -- jeez does the cost of repairs for this car ever end?). When the mechanic told me it was around $1000 to do the job I thought, "who's zooming who?" Now I see it's an all day job at best and for me that equates to a week!

My cradle didn’t want to drop down either. No clue why. Was trying to find other non painful videos showing what else I might have been missing. This one gives the meat & potatoes. Engine was disconnected too. Probably the upper A Arms. I disconnected the shocks and it helped a little but still didn’t want to move. Job ended up being more of a pain that it needed to be

Check the HB periodically for straightness during idling and when during slight revs above 1,000 rpms. Any upright, vertical or horizontal wobbling could indicate elastomer seal on balancer. It is a hit or miss on many C6s. I've seen some at your mileage, or seen no issues even at 140,000 miles!!! Go figure....

Oh boy.... I had a issue today with no charging and no power steering.... On inspection i found pully bolt is loose on my 2005..... Im thinking pully spun on crank as i couldnt find anything else.... Will be attempting this in my driveway

Most people will slide the rack out of the passenger side to avoid damaging the brake lines.

@@skidco1 yes, what i read, the oem parts are crap. But the future will tell. My one is worn out now after 12years of vehicle life. So yours should be also fine for a long time :) In the Video, shown on 22:38 , he is using a Summit SUM C2501. Thats the one he is using. I used a Dayco PB1117Ss. So far, so good..

No way was I attempting this. Dealer cost me $1500 but they sheared two subframe bolts off and had to drill and tap it out so it took them another hour but didn't charge me.

Take Two bolts out for motor mounts. Drop the craddle down by loosen 4 bolts. disconnecting shocks absorber. Push the engine up with jack. That should clear to use a hormonic off. Leave the rack and pinion in with all connections. Also made loosen the top a arms each side 4 bolts each side. And disconnect steering shaft too. Done many times. I am not a mechanic by trade.

@@DoomXexec311 put everything back together. and retorque the balancer. May have to take out or loosen the two bolts that holds the rack and pinion. It's depend a on what socket you have. It's easier more the with shallow socket, better fit between the balancer and rack and pinion

The Balancer, ARP, and new seal around $300-450 but if you get an ATI HB, then it’s like a $500-600 job if you do it yourself. Better than $1300 at the dealer

I talked to APR they said torque balancer bolt to 37 ft pounds then tighten another 140 degrees. Or just torque it to 235 ft pound.
