You could use the cam on your drill and figure out which setting is perfect for getting in that sweet spot, and tighten in a star pattern

In the video you only put the Jacks lube on the o-ring. Should it be put on the spider gasket or any other parts of the Key Assembly? I watched the video where you replaced parts for one of these and there where several areas that you applied the Jacks lube.

You do not need to lubricate the spider gasket, but you can lubricate everything else. Thanks for watching.

Mark..could you please make a video for a Pentair Multiport Key Assembly...I would be grateful. I am curious about the white nylon washer under the handle on the Hayward. I have asked two local pool businesses and they said my Pentair doesn't have that. On your Hayward video it makes the handle so easier to turn. A video for Pentair would help me a lot learning how it all goes together. Love all your videos and learning a lot. Many Thank You's.

I do not have a video on the Pentair valve at this time but I will make one in the future. Hayward calls this washer a teflon bearing which is under the handle, Pentair also has a washer under the handle but they call it a “plastic washer” and it is basically doing the same thing. Both companies make this bearing or washer for lift and turning of the handle. Thanks for watching.

Since I couldn't get a nylon washer...I made one with my big ketchup bottle top. Lol Working great! More than one way to skin a cat. I so appreciate your help. Love your backyard pool...so jealous...it's beautiful. Your videos keep me up late in the night watching and learning. So glad I found your videos. If I ever need another Multiport Key Assembly it will be a Hayward for sure!! Hopefully it will work on my sand filter ECT. I've had my pool for 36 yrs and never really had any problems until I had to wait a year for a new liner..thanks to COVID. It ran fine for 3-4 months then I started noticing more than normal water loss...so didn't want a sink hole under my house so turned it off till I got the Multiport parts. Learned something . The first time it was off couldn't find the spring any where...second time I got to see 2 pieces of the spring that was rusted. I always ran it 10-12 hrs a day for yrs until I had to wait so long for liner and fixing diverter. BTW I made me a cover also to keep over it...but I don't have a jig saw and mines not as pretty as yours...but it works. I'm a pictorial learner and love watching all the videos and learning new things that help save this old retired lady. Lol Thanks again for everything.

So if my System is higher than the pool I just need to make sure the system is off and No need to worry about the valve position? I can leave it in the sand filter position when I remove the key assembly to replace with a like unit? I heard that you should put the key in the close/winter first. The unit I purchased has the gasket and O-ring ready to go. Just need to lube the bottom of the gasket and the O-ring? Thanks for the video as well. Very informative!

@@Easystreet208 Yes, just turn off the system and you can leave the valve in the filter position. The o-ring can be lubed but do not lube the spider gasket on the diverter. Thanks for watching.

Hey Mark, we are new to pool community and learning more every day. With that being said, your videos are great! The handle on our Hayward SelectaFlo Valve busted. We knew it was towards end of life when moved here, so we had purchased a back up valve assembly. When it broke, we felt it would be an easy fix to replace the entire key assembly. There doesn't appear to be any cracks and we did put lube on the o-ring. We are worried about tightening it down to tight and cracking something, but overall we have tightened it down firmly. Any suggenstions?

Don’t over tighten, as long as there are no leaks you should be fine. If you have to tighten a little more make sure that your filter system is off when doing so. Thanks for watching.

Mark can you describe what I need to do to the filter / pump etc before removing the top key assembly Do I need to empty / drain the filter before I start

If your system is level or higher then the pool, all you have to do is turn off the pump and then you can replace. If the system is lower than the pool you will have to shut off the skimmer and drain line at the pump, you may have to plug your return jet or jets so you can service the system without getting wet. Most systems lower than the pool have shut off valves for this reason. Thanks for watching.

Ok so I just replaced this and find when I tighten down the screws the handle becomes extremely loose. Floppy. (It’s nice and tight before tightening the screws). And a small amount of water starts seeping in underneath the handle. All settings work but the floppy handle and seepage concern me. Any thoughts? TIA

When the key assembly is tightened down the handle will have a little play. However the leak under the handle is more than likely the o-ring or o-rings on the shaft of the diverter. You can repair or replace the whole key assembly depending on the age and condition of the valve. Thanks for watching.

I would use original Hayward parts, although there are imitations you get what you pay for.

When I had my pool closed last year the pool company said this part was leaking and needed to be replaced. I am getting ready to open my pool in the next couple of weeks and would like to know if it's okay to replace this while its still in the winter position or if I should wait until after I open it?

You can do it either way, make sure you replace the assembly in the same position that it is removed. I like to replace when in the filter position, this way there is no questioning placement or line up of the assembly. If you need a key assembly for your valve l do carry them. Just got my Hayward filter 3 years ago. I went to open it today and the water is draining even when I have it set on filtration.... I’m assuming I have to switch the valve. Did I do something wrong ? Will I have this issue every 3 years ? Any chance I can get this resolved so pool is ready for father days 😩

It’s possible the key assembly is seized/stuck. This will cause water to leak out the backwash while running in filter. You can rebuild or replace the key assembly. For a temporary fix put a shut off valve or plug on the backwash line which will force the water back to the pool. Just remove when backwashing.

I have a S180T.....the spider gasket is in the bottom assembly and there is no metal washer under the spring..only on top...should I add an extra metal washer to the bottom ....this is an older model.....if I have to change the whole thing which should I order ??

Hello. When I was removing mine to replace the o ring. I removed the handle. And it ended up rotating when it was off and now I can’t figure out which position it’s suppose to go back on. In the cover it has the one hole port but where should that b placed on top off
