Great info! Now I know it's not that serious (I hope). Just opened yesterday and had just this problem. Actually, some techs from a local pool place came out last season and did a sand change right before I opened. When I started the pump running a day or two later, I noticed some water coming out the backwash. It was just a little and seemed to subside after the pump was on for a couple minutes. I just opened yesterday and it seems much worse. I have a rubber compression plug in the backwash outlet for the time being.

So you can install a ball valve in and don't have to replace the gasket. Easier fix

Hi, the one we had when opening the pool was leaking this spring, so we bought a not filter top. It has only been about 6 weeks and now this one is doing the same thing. Still the gasket or did we get a dud? Thanks for any info

I Installed a valve on the backwash line and it fixed the problem since 8 years now.

I would later take apart and use permatex gasket maker. Mine did this just yesterday so valve or plug then once g kids leave pull it out and permatex it..This head is like 15 years old. Somehow survived the last 3 TX hard freezes. Guess it's age is showing now. LOL

Hi I put on a new key grip on my Haywood filter and when I put it on filter water comes out of the backwash hose too. Did I need to seal it with something and buy that sealing ring too. I didn’t do that. Thanks

Linda , I had the exact same problem , I installed a brand new key and it still leaked out of the backwash . I resolved by putting a threaded plug in the backwash line . Filter works perfectly now.

Wow I just had some one come in yesterday tell me it’ll cost 403 to fix this problem! But sand was entering the pool as well! Do you think it’s the gasket still?

If sand is getting back in then its more than likely an issue with your lateral assembly.

KrossberPools yeah sand was getting in the pool and it was cloudy thank god the old owner left another sand filter which is bigger! Now it works flawless super clear and blue!! I just don’t understand why the old owner had 2 filters? This one he had in the basement works way better than the Hayward, buttt just notice sand again but when I look at it close it’s dirt from the ground that our feet picked up or when it’s really windy days or storms! Anyways sand filter looks great no leaks filter is at around 16-19 psi and backwash and rinse is at 10-13psi. I’m so glade that we had a second one! My question tho is should I still try to fix the Hayward sand-filter or just work on saving for a new one?

KrossberPools is there any good price models I should look at and what size pump and filter should o get for a 21 round 4foot deep? I’m using a .5hp pump that looks pretty old. Although the guys at Royal pools said it looks fine. Thanks for the feed back Krossber pools!
