Thank you very much, I was able to do this because of your video. Thanks for getting to the point and just telling us how to do the repair. One thing to note, my 2003 Xterra has a skid plate that obfuscates the lines you point out in the beginning. It was simple to remove, just wanted to let other people know they will need to remove the skid plate. Thanks!

Great video - I just finished replacing the high pressure hose on my 2001 Xterra and this was perfect for the job. If someone is doing a 2001 there a few changes from the 2003. The banjo bolt is easier to remove (you don;t need to use the open ended wrench, just the socket). Some of the bolt sizes are a little different and the cross member hold downs are different on the 2001. I also found it easier to just remove the battery and both tires. Thanks again.

I did have to use the wrench on my 2001 X-Terra. That metal tabs to hold it just bent. Removed the battery and reservoir for the radiator gave room. Another issue is the line sold now has a different high pressure switch connection. Also an impact wrench was needed to remove the banjo bolt but worth the $50.00.

@brianmazakas68053 жыл бұрын
I have an 01 and used your follow. Being a 4x4, make a lot tougher to get to items. Be sure to mention that installing the new one you need to start at the compression fitting first, that was difficult, then do the middle two supports then the passenger side bracket. The pump fitting is the last, but there were two seals, one just under the head and one under the fitting. You'll figure it out.

Great video! I've recently purchased a 2003 Nissan Xterra, its in great condition. Only problem I'm having is the steering wheel locks up or stiffens when traveling slow and cutting the wheel left while breaking. I'm very concerned with this problem so I found about three other people on the NHTSA complaints page who had the same problem none with solutions but one said he was on the highway when this happened and he took it to the dealer ship who replace this part. What I'm getting at is if these steering problems are caused by this hose leaking or if its a different problem? Thank you in advance.

Pretty much the hoses are only change if they’re leaking. Pump can lose the ability to create pressure or it can leak.

great video. I've got to do this on a 1991 pickup, and this will help a bunch. one complaint - pull the negative instead of the positive when unhooking the battery. less chance to short out your tool to the frame or some other part when disconnecting the negative.
@ragnaroksangel2 жыл бұрын
No shit, Sherlock. But you clearly missed WHY he said to remove the positive. Go listen to what he said again.
@jon_byler2 жыл бұрын
@@ragnaroksangel if you take the negative terminal loose there is no need to remove the positive. This is why a smart person always takes the negative/ground loose then doing any work under the hood, especially where there is a chance of shorting something out. An electrical circuit needs a complete path from - to + in order to be complete. If you take the negative loose, the common ground rail that is the frame of the vehicle, and pretty much all metal parts in the vehicle that are touching the frame in some way will no longer be a possible part of the circuit. Taking the positive loose instead of the negative will also work, but if you bump your wrench into the frame or some other part that is connected to the negative terminal while removing the lead from the positive terminal, you will complete the circuit, make your wrench hot if it gets stuck, and possibly start a fire. I know WHY he said to remove the positive, and while it's a nice idea, it's always smarter and safer to remove the negative terminal from the circuit in a negative ground system like this one is.
@ragnaroksangel2 жыл бұрын
@@jon_byler It's mostly irrelevant anyways, because getting to that 24mm bolt is a major pain in the ass on these. I just did this job on my 2004 Xterra today- went ahead and flushed the fluid (as you should) and removed the reservoir to clean it out. Between doing all that and Trying to fight with that bolt, it's a lot easier to just take the battery out. That also gives you access to remove the 2 bolts joining the nipple for the hose from the reservoir to the pump, allowing you to change the O ring inside. That will allow you to remove that fork, and you can tap the high pressure line fittings to loosen that 24mm bolt. That was a lot easier than fighting with it.
