@moofushu depends on the car. Just a general one would be screwdrivers, a set of sockets from 8 mm to 19 mm, a set of wrenches the same, a test light, a pair of cutters, a hammer, a pair of work gloves, any special size sockets the car requires like hex sockets, a pair of locking pliars, and ratchets to drive the sockets. Also, you might as well clean your throttle body, idle control valve, and check your vacuum/intake hoses for cracks. Obviously those are different videos, but it helps if you've already done most of the dis-assembly to just get it out of the way.

generally a blown head gasket or a blown intake manifold gasket does that. SO, do my video test "how to tell if your head gasket is blown" to see if that's bad. If it isn't, then change the intake gasket instead.

@girlythug72 you can't seal them from the outside, you'd still have to take it apart and apply silicone sealer to fix such a leak. But if you're losing coolant only, you could use bars alumiseal in the radiator to attempt a seal.

@spelunkerd Yes, plastic has taken over because it's CHEAP to manufacture. I don't really weld plastic because I'm basically a mechanic who fixes mechanical or electrical faults. And if that type of plastic part breaks, welding is really not an option as the piece would no longer fit correctly. Now body work guys weld plastic all the time, cause that's just cosmetic and doesn't have to take strains or fit on a gasket area perfectly. Scotty
@scottykilmer
@scottykilmer 11 жыл бұрын
you have to drill it out and retap it if you can't grab it. some guys try welding a smaller bolt onto the piece then try to unscrew it that way. Any exhaust leak will effect MPG due to oxygen sensors going bonkers from incorrect gas flow

Thanks for making the video. The theatrics of dropping the tailgate on the truck at the end was funny. If you were to make the assumption that one possible problem led to the other between the following, which do you think is more likely (or how might they relate: recommendation to replace intake manifold gasket (per smoke test performed) or recommendation to repair/replace timing belt (after getting P0016 error code, replacing intake and exhaust vvt solenoids, spark plugs, platinum fuel service {injector and induction system cleaning}, and replacing camshaft position sensor 1) but still smelling exhaust, getting the check engine light, P0016 code after clearing and new drive cycle? @nightmathzombieethan NO, read my other post below. There are MANY different grades of plastic, and the tough stuff they use on intake manifold assemblies isn't damaged by brake spray at all. After all, the damn thing sits on top of a hot aluminum engine all day long, if it were that weak, it would melt and crack just running the engine. Scotty
@scottykilmer
@scottykilmer 14 жыл бұрын
@mazdarx7head It doesn't melt that kind of plastic. There are numerous types of plastics out there, if the intake manifold was made of a cheaper plastic, it would just melt from the heat of the engine it's bolted onto. And I did talk about if you have a vacuum leak on your engine in the beginning. Scotty
@scottykilmer

@diistriitglow Often, you will get a trouble code with the check engine light on. It will say Engine running too lean when the leak gets big enough. then a mechanic like myself will run a smoke machine test to see if it is indeed leaking. If you don't fix the leak, the engine will run too lean and that can damage the engine. Scotty
