Just finding this video. THANK YOU. I finally am doing a big overall maintenance on my 1995 4X4 Ranger but I was so confused reading the repair manuals and owner guide.

A few days ago I saw your video on bearing replacement and it helped me tremendously. I changed the rotor and bearings on the driver side, cleaned and painted everything. Today I woke up and started on the passenger side and the inner bearing was also seized. I heated it with a torch, bang it with a hammer and chisel, cutting wheel, and it didn't even budge. Heading to the salvage yards tomorrow.

@@rayregnogarage Yo my man I found three off of a 95 and 96 Explorer 4x4, for 27 bucks. I put it together today and took it for a test drive. I heard some rattling and when I got home I check it and the passenger side drive axle had some play. The axle u joints looked good when I removed the spindle, so tomorrow I'm going to take it apart and see what's the problem. Any suggestions or words of encouragement is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have a lifted 97 4x4 ranger My bearing blew out about two days ago causing my front axle to become loose Would you recomend replacing the entire hub or Should I reuse it and replace bearings
@rayregnogarage3 жыл бұрын
If it was just the bearings that were on the spindle and the spindle is in good shape, you should be able to just replace the bearings. But There are also axle bearings on the inside of the spindle as well. It really just depends. I would try the bearings on the spindle inside the brake caliper first. when you have it all bolted back together and it’s solid, then it should be good. I replaced my spindle because i chewed the crap out of it with the cut off wheel trying to get the seized bearing off
@truth2823 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your reply. I found a spindle online. But when I try to get the old spindle off the abs sensor is in the way and it looks like a special tool is needed to remove sensor
@rayregnogarage3 жыл бұрын
I covered that in the video. There's two screws that hold it on. Then just had a slide hammer to pull of the spindle. The sensor holder should come off safely if you remove all the screws.

Do spacers like that make it harder on your bearings?
@rayregnogarage3 жыл бұрын
It's funny. Someone last night commented on one of my Xterra posts that my wheel spacer was what caused my bearings to go bad... BUT.. that truck got over 130k miles on the factory hub assembly. That's way better than average. The internet says that spacers or negative offset are bad for bearings, and it makes sense that the added leverage can wear them out faster.. but I haven't seen it to be a significant issue. I like the wider stance and bearings are not THAT expensive... So you just have to decide if it's a compromise you want to make.
@xGamingWithJasonx3 жыл бұрын
@@rayregnogarage yeah I mean I wouldnt mind having a wider stance on my 96 ranger but I wasnt sure if it would cause any issues or not. I mean I for sure dont want to be changing wheel bearings every six months ya know?
@rayregnogarage3 жыл бұрын
I don't have the spacers anymore. I upgraded to a 15x8 American Racing Outlaw II. It pushes the tire out quite a bit on its own. Six months is extreme. I've had wheel spacers on my Xterra with a 33" tire for 5 years and have had no problems.

I had to cut a seized bearing race off the spindle on an old roached out Fox Body Mustang I had in a gas station parking lot. It sucked.
@rayregnogarage4 жыл бұрын
That’s gnar. What did you use to cut it out?
@CVTaxi4 жыл бұрын
@@rayregnogarage A cheap 4½ grinder with a cut off wheel plugged into an outlet on the side of the gas station with a 50 foot extension cord. Needless to say, the spindle ended up looking just as bad as the one in your video. I slapped some new bearings on it anyway just to get it home then replaced the knuckle/spindle later.

"Wants to go without" his ABS... Because he thinks it will stop faster...! ABS will not work on ICE, and for that matter on dirt, because when all the wheels lock up, the ABS thinks that the vehicle is stopped already! If you are "plowing" in the dirt or the snow, you won't have an issue with your ABS, as it will give you better traction than the "build-up" of the stuff from the roadway. I know this as I drive commercially, both on and off-road.
@rayregnogarage3 жыл бұрын
Commercial driving and off-road driving/racing are not the same thing. I don’t imagine youre driving that commercial vehicle at 60+ mph over rough terrain or climbing/descending technical obstacles. In some cases, I WANT the tires to lock up instantly. I also don’t imagine your commercial vehicle has knobby off-road tires. ABS is for street vehicles. This truck is for trail/desert only. I have street vehicles for street use. You’re talking apples and oranges here.
