Please, leave some feedback or click on a thumb if you watch. The more feedback you give, the more Toyota can see there is an issue that needs to be dealt with to keep their customers.
This video will show you what the problem is with the center hinge on the Toyota Sienna minivan's sliding door. It will show you, from start to finish, how to replace the defective part. By the end, the door went from close to nonoperational to sliding like butter. Make sure to watch to the end for a unique way to disable the door's cable without cutting it. Leave comments!

I just fixed the same problem using this video on Sienna 2008 limited, thanks! Few tips: I rolled down the window for easier access to the hinge and the cable. The cable end pieces have plastic part that comes easily off the metal part - no need to unscrew the metal parts at all (and the plastic piece won't scratch your car). So all together only 3 + 2 screws to be removed. For the driver (left) door side, the hinge part number is 68390-08031 (about $120 from Toyota). It seemed coated already, so I did not use any paint on it. Fairly simple job in the end (once I had all the info from you, really appreciated!).

Thanks for the video. It saved me hundreds and possibly thousands of dollars. Both doors were sagging to the point that my kids could barely open them and the hinge had actually wore through the paint underneath the track down to the metal. Bought my hinges on Amazon for about $90 a piece. I had to replace both of them. I don't have the automatic doors on my 2007 Sienna which made it even easier. Had the new hinges installed on both doors in less than 30 minutes total. I used the tip from pancake809 and brought my hinges to the front of the rails and tilted them up and they came right out and did the reverse to put them back it. It worked like a charm. I simply used a jack stand to hold up my door while I replaced the hinge. THANKS AGAIN!!!

You and your video saved me $400.!!!!! I had the dealer fix the right side hinge, costing me over $400 and they mentioned that the left side hinge was starting to go bad. I asked them for the part number for the left hinge, believe it or not, they gave it to me....found it on ebay for $80.00....saw your video...and replaced the left side in 10 minutes! If I had known what exactly was wrong with the right side hinge, I would have done the same thing and save me some big bucks! Thanks for your help..it was greatly appreciated it!

Thanks for the video, it saved me a lot of time researching where to disconnect what. I used a rolling car jack, was able to move the door back to remove the hinge out the back tracks. I suggest leaving the cable ends dangling down instead of looping around the door bracket while working ( I put the ends in a snack zip bag to keep it from scratching the car). I didn't need to paint it either, looked to be nickel plated already. $105 plus 40 minutes with your video's general guidance. Make sure jack the door up as high as possible before tighten the hinge bolts or it will still sag.

LOOK/READ Watched your video did the some job in 40 minutes. you don't need to slide door hinge to back to take it off. you can disconnect everything like in video then slide hinge to front and tilt it up and it will come out no problem. so you don't need slide or move door at all. have door more closed then open to reach bolts ect. and have it punched on a jack. Great video and tool list figured id update this with a quicker way.

Had the same issue on my 2006 Sienna, the kids had been operating the RH sliding door by hand because the bad hinge had been giving the automatic slider too much resistance to properly function. Bought the hinge off of eBay, cleaned and painted in a few minutes, then (once dry) the whole "procedure" took less than 45 min. Great video, big thanks for posting!

Thanks for the great video. I just fixed our 2003 Sienna. This made the job really easy. I also agree completely with your assessment of the root cause near the end (I thought it would be that the bearing outer races had worn, but the diameters of the new and old were the same. This assembly is an item that could easily be redesigned to make replacement cheap, fast and easy.

Thanks, great video. I spent more time finding the right part on the internet and painting it than I did actually replacing the hinge because of your video documentation. I'm sure it would have taken 2-3 times longer with a lot more head scratching and thinking about it. You saved me about $200 on the job from the dealer quote, returned the better part of a Sunday afternoon to me, and I'm a hero at home. A nice Trifecta. Thanks again.

Thank you! Your video was excellent! As a side note, I had the same problem as you with the cable-- both coating and nasty sound. I burned off the coating with a lighter. (heated it somewhat and then used my fingernail to get off the torn jacket) I then rethreaded the pulleys that were attached to the top of the center hinge. It took me 5 times to do it correctly, but the end result was no annoying sound at the end. Tedious, but worth it.

Hello! I wanted to thank you for your video. I watched it many times and it helped a whole bunch! I was hoping I could add that I have a 2012 Sienna and it was slightly different. The cable doesn't need to be disconnected at all. All it entailed was simply unscrewing five bolts and the stop under the window. Hopefully that may help people with newer Siennas. Thanks again!

Thanks for the information, just finished doing this project. Took about 20 minutes start to finish. Not terrible. Just wanted to add some tips. I did the driver side. if you roll down the window, you can put the door up on a jack where the two bolts holding the center hinge are lined up 1" past the rear of the gas door (have driver side gas door). You can do all the work from this position by reaching the top two bolts through the open window. Keep in mind which direction the cables go. They end up going through the door to a motor, and need to go back in the right way. I added 5 minutes by having to fix a tangle. If you care about your paint, wrap the cable end pieces (where the bolts go) in a paper towel or something similar and put tape around them. they fall and want to scratch things. Thanks for the video. 2010 Sienna

Thanks! Just fixed my '06 Sienna using your help. It took me less than an hour not counting the spray painting. My wife even said, "wow, that didn't take too long." Managing the cable was easier than I though. The video kinda makes it look like a mess of cables, but it's pretty easy. However, getting to the hinge bolts was a bit harder. There's a fair amount of moving the door back and forth to get to those bolts. One I had to get to from inside the van. So, it's handy to have a kid nearby to move your van door support back and forth while you muscle the door to the different spots needed. Otherwise, except for banging my hand while prying the plastic cover off (as predicted) it went really well and my door is working again.

Thanks a bunch for your helpful video. It took me about one hour to do it. At first, I had a hard time accessing the five bolts on the hinge. Now I realized the hinge had sagged because when I was bolting the new hinge, the space was wider and my tools/hands went easily to access the work area. This video is amazing. I think I just saved hundreds of $$ if I brought it to Toyota dealership. I'll use the saved $$ to buy a new pair of Rayban sunglasses LOL. Thanks again...

Thanks, worked great! I was thrown off because for me the hinge itself (not the door) was sagging and scraping the paint. It wasn't until I installed the new one that I understood how the hinge clearance is controlled by its attachment to the door (through the pin you point out), not by the rollers themselves. The mileage was already out of the warranty enhancement limit, so I didn't both checking with Toyota.

Thanks for the video. I have an 05 that needs the hinges replaced on both sides. Toyota is no help, they basically told me I was on my own and the dealer wants money just to look at it and has no idea on what the total cost might be. I can tell that the pivot pins on the hinge are what's worn. In the video you mentioned the center hinge parts has some minor differences. Did you buy updated or superseded hinges? Also, any recommendations on where to purchase OEM Toyota parts? Thanks again for the video, it will come in handy.

Just spent $111 at my local dealership to "diagnose" this problem on my 2007 Sienna. My passenger side door scrapes the body under the window and binds up, which requires someone to help "push" the power door closed so it will latch, otherwise it bounces open again. The dealer said that the rear hinge/roller is worn out which is also causing wear on upper and lower hinge/rollers. I originally took it in hoping it would be covered under the service bulletin. No luck. Their cost to replace all 3 hinges is $1083. I plan on replacing the rear hinge myself and go from there. I was pretty annoyed that I had to pay to find out if it would be covered. Seems to go against the point of sending out a service bulletin. Thanks again for this detailed video. Gives me hope!

Hey. Thanks for the video. I just replaced my 2004 power door center hinge. Video very useful. But, although the door is not sagging anymore . The main problem is not solved. It does not open with the remote it is stuck. When using the handle sometimes it works. Moreover, it used to close with the remote, now it hangs !!! Exactly like you had in your video. I am not sure if the door is re-positioned and not able to unlock it from rear position or something wrong happened to the bottom hinge.

I got a better understanding. The hinge started to go bad. Lath-release motor goes bad and door doe not lock at full open position. But still closes by remote from full position although latch-release motor is broken but it does not latch at full open :). Now after replacing the hinge, it latches at full open position. But, the latch-release motor is broken so it does not close with remote: handle only. CONCLUSION: I have to replace the latch-release motor.

Try the dealership and see if the warranty enhancement will cover it now that it has snapped. What frustrated me was the fact that they would not replace the cable until it snapped, even though the plastic coating was failing and it was just a matter of time. If it were me, I would ditch the cable. The two sliding doors on my van now glide like butter. No more hassle with the cable, door not staying put, hard to close etc.The doors actually works better than when we bought the van.Lithium spray!

No, but you may want to check with Toyota to see if the warranty enhancement might cover your issue. There may be a deeper issue with your door. It sounds as if the plastic flaked off the cable and got stuck inside the motor assembly. Time to open up the door to see the inside. I'd call the dealership to see if something might be covered.

Does it scrape on the latch's top (the one that is connected to the body of the van) so that it looks like the metal is being worn off? Does the door look like it is going to hit the body as it is closing? If you answered yes to either of these questions, the answer is likely a "Yes".

I would take a bolt out and use a washer with a big enough hole for the bolt, and probably about 1" in total diameter. If unsure, just go to a hardware store and buy a few different sizes and take back the ones that don't work. Before you take it to a shop, go on and try it! If you mess up, the worst that can happen is that you have to take it somewhere to get it finished.

There's lots of different potential problems with the sliding door, and once one starts acting up it sounds like the extra forces sometimes cause other things to fail in short order. But this likely could be the problem if the door is close to the side or even scraping paint sometimes. If there is play in the door (you can try lifting the back of it when it's open) then this is likely the issue IMO.

I previously adjusted this hinge to help get the door working, but it's acting up again, and I can see the telltale signs of a hinge problem, with a little missing paint and chewed up plastic from it continuing to operate as it is slowly going out. On your other issue of it not working with the fob and such, it could be it's just the actuator that lets the door slide. I don't have that problem, but it might be or be similar to what the youtube fixed here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmepmYClqZWbr7s Back to the hinge, if it's just the pin slowly eating away or the holes for the pin slowly getting larger, why not cut out the pin and put in a bolt. With a nylon nut or some locktite, or a touch of welding, it should hold in place. Is there any reason not to do that instead of buying a new hinge assembly?

As far as the bolt, it couldn't hurt to try. There may be too much play with using a bolt and then your door would really have issues digging into the metal.

I finally got around to doing this replacement today. I was able to push the plastic rear trim piece up with my fingers, so the hardest part was getting the upper bolt on the forward cable end lined up. This whole thing took maybe 15 minutes, not including watching the video several times over the past months, and painting. 3 months ago our local pick-n-pull had a 2005 Sienna that had been a local taxi cab before being in a crash, and I was able to harvest the center sliding hinge from it. Obviously one from a taxi would get lots of use and be a bad choice if it was original, but this looks like it was a replacement at some point (not fully painted taxi yellow), and the hinge pin and bushings also had been recently replaced. There is no play at all in the main hinge pin! The pin had been welded in at the top, but it looks like it's just a hinge pin and bushing kit, like you would find on rockauto.com or amazon: www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=node%3D15709241&field-keywords=hinge+pin+bushing+kit+toyota&rh=n%3A15684181%2Cn%3A15719731%2Cn%3A13591417011%2Cn%3A15709241%2Ck%3Ahinge+pin+bushing+kit+toyota Back just before xmas I painted the taxi yellow hinge with grey primer. I was thinking about getting a sparkling silver to get close to our van color, or even painting it black. But this is relatively close, and is going to be fine. The "new" hinge works great, getting rid of the jerking near closure that happened with the old one, which would make the auto-closure fail in colder conditions and/or on nearly any slope. It looks like it gives plenty of clearance. I'm holding onto the original one. I think if I grind the very top of the pushed in pin, I can get the original pin out and replace the pin and bushings. The upper bushing on my original is shot, and giving it's condition I'm surprised we haven't had more problems with it. Thanks for the video! Though I'd never recommend installing something using an impact wrench (world of hurt if you stripped the threading the bolt was going into), the rest of the video did a great job of explaining the problem and showing how easy it was to make the repair. Thanks!

+Go Ontryit hey I found a reputable collision center to replace my hinge minus the minor and getting worse paint damage they quoted me $261 what do ya think? I'm nervous to take on such a large job I've never tried anything like this do you suggest a link for the 2007 limited driver's side with power door they are saying $119 but will put on one I buy I am just going to have to paint to save $40 on a paint job for the hinge.

I'm not sure of the driver's side video. I would try it. The worst that can happen is that you need to take it to the shop to have them replace it if you can't. Have fun and take your time.

68380-08031 (right side) and 68390-08031 (left side) I bought at my local dealership because they took a % off the order. If I were to do it again, this place looks like it would work just fine: parts.olathetoyota.c o m
