I'm still running the stock suspension on my BEW Jetta sedan, it's getting waaaay too soft for safety (although I can still follow my friend's E36 M3 up a mountain pass). For long I've been pointing at simple setup using VR6 springs on the front and some heavy duty Monotube Bilstein shocks, no coil overs, I think it's a more reliable and simple route. Tell us if they will sell you a replacement spring!
