Best diy video hands down , no nonsense, listed all the products that you used and explained the repair so easy that I felt comfortable doing it myself, the torque specs, pushed me over the edge to do it, and came out perfectly, thank you so so much , I just subscribed to your channel. .. thanks again..... I only weight 115 lbs so I did need some help from my brother to loosen the fan clutch nut, but other than that, all me..thanks again.

Great video. I own a 2002 Silverado 2500HD, with the 8.1 liter. I have about 242,000 miles on it and the water pump just started to leak. You would get double thumbs up if there was that option lol. I'm gonna get all the parts together and get the repair going. Thanks again, keep the videos coming.

Great video on water pump swap and hose! I have a 05 Avalanche with the 8.1 in it and just had radiator issues with it crack towards the top on the thermostat side so I'm ripping into it and think going to do the water pump and hoses too! Great job I also like my Milwaukee tools!😉

Great details, easy to follow, and made this job a piece of cake! Worth noting, when draining the coolant via the petcock, there is actually a rubber drain hose that runs vertically up the side of the radiator. Fish that out and down into your bucket and you won't make such a mess. Additionally, you will get more coolant drained out. Put the hose back in the upright position and close the petcock, then continue on! Thanks!

Thankfully GM kept this easy to replace. My stock water pump went out at 252,000 miles. These are definitely some great trucks.

My 2002 Sierra’s original water pump just started leaking at 290,000 miles. First coolant issue on this truck....besides a faulty coolant tank covered under warranty the first year I own the truck.

@@HowtoAutomotive I certainly didn't get my money's worth out of the second one though. Granted it was a parts store pump. The replacement went bad 50k later and at the same time, it started to have transmission problems. It's now sitting in my back yard and I replaced it with a 2014 Ram 2500 with the cummins, fully deleted and tuned of course.

My 2002 avalanche Chevy 2500 has the Same everything like the motor in this video . I'm having a hard time finding my engine cooling temp sensor. Can you please do a video on that one ect sensor please.?

Hey man I loved the video. I replaced the water pump/fan clutch/thermostat/ and both belts. After doing so no more leaks but now my temp jumps from like 160 to 191 then back to 160 sometimes in between. It didn’t do that before. It was a moto rad fail safe. Replaced with 2 different ac delco gold ones and now back to a new moto rad fail safe and it’s still doing it. I’m thinking maybe the fan clutch is to big if that makes sense. It seems to be a louder roar from the fan then before. Lemme know what you think if you have time. Thanks sir. @howtoautomotive

Just bought a 02 Avalanche with 8.1 it makes a loud roaring sound when on the throttle. It sometimes go away after I’m on the highway at about 75mph after about 4 miles. Could it be water pump or ac compressor?
@HowtoAutomotive
@HowtoAutomotive 5 жыл бұрын
It would be hard for me to say without hearing it for myself. One thing you can do is take the drive belt off and spin all the pulleys by hand and see if any of them feel scratchy or make noise.
@wolfbear572
@wolfbear572 5 жыл бұрын
I think I may have narrowed it down to fan clutch. And maybe thermostat my temp gauge doesn’t go over 180 and last time the noise stop. Engine temp went to 210

Awesome video...doing a friends Avalanche water pump tomorrow...I'm a heavy equipment mechanic and old school big block Chevy guy...haven't much fooled around with the newer stuff...I'm stuck in the 60's and 70's 427 and 454 bow ties in Chevelles,El Caminos and SS Impalas...'67 thru '70...ok those are my cars...so I don't have time much for other stuff...but this was super helpful...I will be referring back to it tomorrow to get job done...LOL!

Do you really need to replace the factory hose clamps? The old ones seem to fit better.
@HowtoAutomotive

Thomas Fraser If the OE clamp is in good shape it’s OK to reuse them. I’ve had a few of them leak on me so I like to change them.

Keep constant tension spring clamp or replace it with a new one. NEVER expect a customer to get in there and service worm drive clamps! Spring clamp will keep tension on hose as it compresses over time.
