This is a fantastic tutorial. I am having issues and where as it is late I dont wanna call a plumber but am gonna get in contact with a friend of mine who is a plumber tomorrow. I can do without water for now. I know how to fix alot of this stuff but still like watching stuff like this just to make sure I dont miss something. I am most definitely missing something tho because I have searched all around my pump and still cant find my pressure switch. I also need to replace my guage and maybe my bladder/pressure tank. I also have to replace the entire boiler and the sump pump system as thats been overworked. It has been one thing after another ever since I bought this house but its good to learn.

That’s a great video, I maintained my pressure switch which had the same symptoms as yours by tear it down and sanding the terminals till the copper shines again. Then added some Vaseline to the terminals to elongate their lifespan also as you said I cleaned the bottom water screen and lubricated the gasket with Vaseline again and now it works like a brand new one

Never knew to use pipe dope and teflon together, so I doubted this guy a bit. Googled it and sure enough, after some research, the verdict is this guy is a scholar...lol. To be more specific, the explanation that I found is quoted here: "Using Dope and tape together is how it should be done. Dope has Teflon embedded in it and acts as lubricant and Bonds with the Teflon tape making a great seal." Thank you for the great video sir, I guess I should have known you knew you were seasoned, when you installed the T for future draining.....

My system doesn't have the red valve for releasing any air still in the lines coming from the house, etc. Do you really need one since the air will come out of faucets, etc., when you open them up?

Thanks for the video. There's not enough clearance on my setup to rotate the entire pressure switch. Can I simply turn the hex nut to remove the old pressure switch and then again install a new one? Thanks again.

You're welcome. The hex nut is part of the pressure switch so it would all turn at the same time unless you removed all the small screws from the bottom. Not sure what you have in the way stopping the rotation of the pressure switch and if you could rotate or remove whats in the way. There much have been a way they got the switch in there unless its glued pipe and they assembled and then glued it in. If so maybe cut/ glue in a union or even a shark bite fitting to make it easier.

I have a Wayne 1/2 HP cast iron shallow well pump JSU50. It just stopped working. I can’t find any videos on how to disassemble the pressure switch on that particular model. It has no pressure whatsoever and doesn’t make any sound or anything. I shut the main breaker off a few times and nothing when I turn it back on.

When I take the screwdriver to the ground wire I get sparks?!? Breaker is off and I am pretty sure there is no power coming from anywhere else. I even turned off the Main. Is it one of the capacitors?

I had a similar issue, with ground reading around 10v. I checked main panel for open neutral (which seemed like the most likely and concerning culprit from what I gather), but have but not been able to locate the source. Have you found out where sparks were coming from on your set-up? I do know that some older electrical systems would run a secondary ground from the main panel to the metal service pipe.

Hi, your video is great and I am feeling confident on changing out my pressure switch on my well pump. However, my big air compressor in my shop is too far away from my tank house and won’t reach to adjust the air pressure inside the well tank. What will be the problem if I can’t do that step?

Glad we could give you the confidence to take on this repair. You will want it to be pretty close. You could use a bike pump, electric car tire pump, portable air tank ect to raise it up if you need to, connect a few air hoses together. You may not need to raise it. You could drain off the pressure and see what it is before taking anything apart to see if you need to figure out a way to add air.

TheDIYGuyDOTnet Successfully did it today and again many thanks for your excellent video. Pressure in my tank was 29, let a little air out but it stayed at 29 and I figured that was close enough on a 30/50 setting. It cycled perfectly and water is running great! Another successful repair using these fabulous KZbin videos!

Any idea how I would know what the pressure limits are for a new switch? The old box cover I have doesn't have a sticker in it, and I can't see any information like that. . Is there a "standard" one to get? Is 40/60 rather standard? Mine looks very similar to the model you have there (it's a pumptrol by Square D)

Normally when you buy them you can get either a 30-50 ( amzn.to/2E5EpEi ) or a 40-60 ( amzn.to/3g8fJZ1 ) has it somewhere on the switch or packaging. You can adjust them also. If your asking how to tell what switch you currently have you can just open the faucet tap & run the water and watch when it turns the pump on. Then close the faucet tap and see what the pump shuts off at. Older houses typically use a 30-50. Most newer houses use a 40-60.

My well is outside, I can not find a turn off breaker anywhere to turn the power off so I can replace the pressure switch. the one box out there says no breaker in this box

Most have a disconnect somewhere close like this one. If not there should be a shut off within the main panel or a sub panel. If you can follow the wires that should point you in the right direction. If you can't locate the exact breaker you could shut off all the double pole or 220 volt breakers and then test the switch if that doesn't work you could shut the main breaker and then check to ensure its off with a 110 volt meter.

You don't have to drain all of the water out, unless you are replacing or splicing pipes like he did here to add a drain valve. Just relieve all of the pressure by opening a faucet, or running a hose until water no longer comes out.

Thanks for making the video. I replaced the pressure switch and still having issues with not cutting off, even at 80 psi. Sometimes it wont even let me cut it on at 0 psi. Any suggestions would be appreciated

I would check the pipe that the pressure switch is mounted to as they tend to get mineral build up within them causing the pressure switch to act up and not read the correct pressure within the system. I would say check the screen on the bottom of the pressure switch itself but since you have already replaced the pressure switch that shouldn't be the issue.

I would drain the tank and check the pipe going to the pressure switch as there is a screen in there that gets clogged and the switch cant read the amount of pressure in the system.

@@fathersonsconstruction1113 I did. I adjusted my cutoff valve (small one, upper left) counterclockwise two full turns. It was at 50psi, my pump could only get to 45psi. Shuts off now everytime. Each full turn of the screw counterclockwise was 2.5psi. Figure out what your max PSI is after using water and set the cutoff to that value.
