One of the best how-to-videos available on changing a well pressure switch - great job ! I particularly liked your tips on (1) making sure the capacitor in well pump control is discharged; (2) tip on cleaning out the "gunk" in the existing pipes; and (3) Flushing the system before resuming flow to the main household / supply areas. Excellent! Changed out my pressure switch last night. Not sure how much a plumber would have charged, but glad I tackled it myself, made possible by learnings from this video. Thank you!

Leo thank you for your kind comments! I’m so glad you found the video helpful. Wells aren’t very common here in Las Vegas so there are only a few companies available to service them and it comes with a premium price. “Sweat Equity” is always the best value.

The remarks about a well some distance from the house are on point! I just set up a mobile shallow well pump to run off a good but unused well until I replace the foot valve in the well nearest my home. (That was an hour before finding this video.) In order to have a self-contained mobile system that's also modular I put a pressure switch, garden hose fittings for inlet and outlet, and a Pumptrol with the OFF-AUTO lever (for convenience, it saves needing a separate off switch but should not be considered a SAFETY disconnect, flip your breakers for that) on a 3/4" NPT cross. It took some tuning to get the best pressure for my house. BTW I prime using a Bosworth 400 Guzzler hand pump which are self-priming and a brilliant design from a company famous for marine pumps. With garden hose adapter they're under a hundred bucks and everyone who wants a reliable manual backup pump plus an effortless way to prime shallow wells should buy one. There are KZbin videos of them in action. I've driven wells and done all sorts of industrial and home repair and wish I knew about Bosworth forty years ago.

@hos 46 when we find ourselves losing pressure it is usually corroded sticks (pipes leading up from the pump) that are leaking and must be replaced. That is definitely not a diy job.

Im getting 148V on my new pressure switch. does it make sense? I would assume it should be either 230 or 115V, am I wrong?

Sean if you have a pump control box it may have a slow start feature which lowers the initial start-up torque to prolong the life of the pump and sticks.

In that case you might have voltage loss from the distance the wires are traveling relative to their gauge or damage to the sheathing.

Unless you have a very shallow well, I would assume your pump is 220 volts.

I had an old pressure switch that doesn't look like the new one and I can't tell for sure which wire goes where by their pathetic wiring diagram that comes with it. And not one single video I've watched so far explains that to you. Just copy what you had before. Well it's not the same so you can't. Otherwise it's a very good video.

You waste to much time with stupid stuff like brushing the drain valve. Getting to the point quickly makes a good video. Also, you did not explain the symptoms of a bad switch.
