My check engine light turned on and I got a P0171 code back: "System too lean". After some research I found out that a common cause for this is that the airbox was not closed properly. I recently took my car to get the oil changed and they checked my air filter. This video helped me see that they did not close my airbox properly! Very helpful video (saved me the $90 diagnostic fee from a mechanic)!

Many thanks for the helpful video. Air filter change was simple and I was well prepared to handle the 3 slots thanks to your detailed explanation. Also changed cabin air filter in my 2016 Mazda 6 with help of another video, also no problem. Total cost for both filters was about $30 on Amazon and saved about $100 versus buying & installing at a garage. Total time to install both: about 5 minutes.

Manufacurers instil nonsense to their buyers that they have to use their service departments to keep full service history. The fact of simply keeping bills from regular maintenence is better than main dealer. One of my cars went through main dealer and one part of service was air filter change. After service checked the engine air filter and not changed, took the car back and demanded it be done. If they missed that off the list what else they missed. Oh and they charged £300.
