This video is just in the "nick of time" as I just recently replaced my cabin air filter and also wondered how does does it work because on my old 99 Land Cruiser, it did not come with a cabin air filter but my 2017 Tundra did. Changing the cabin air filter made a great difference in my truck to help improve the air filtration and resolved my issues with foggy windows.

Is it possible to have increased gas mileage if the cabin air filter before was 99% clogged ? Would this make the thermostat work harder or the ac work harder? I changed mine and saw some improvements, but not sure if this was the reason.

At 2:17, are you sure that this area (the hood grille beneath the windshield) is High pressure area? I think is Low thus the air can be soaked inside because inside the engine bay is high pressure. Also another question: if we make that entrance point a little bit larger (to take more air) there would be a benefit for the blower fan or not?.
@AkihikoTakeba2 жыл бұрын
Honestly didn’t think this would help with what I was looking for. But it did. With a cursory look I couldn’t find how air entered the cabin with pictures. But you showed it in video. I was convinced it was part of the air filter system for the motor. Had no idea it was such a simple intake. Thanks, them mice are in trouble now!

The fan in your illustration is rotating in the wrong direction. The angle of the blades will only take air inside the blower and force it out in the direction of the air flow arrows if it's turning in a clockwise direction... Right?

Yes thank you! I went to a Honda dealership and told them some unpleasant smell is coming out of my ventilation system. (Fyi: I keep my 2019 Honda Si super clean inside and outside). Anyways, they told me to go to Canadian Tire to buy some product I spray into the vents. Needles to say the odour is still there now it's a double odour of spray and something unpleasant. I have faith that changing the cabin filter will make a complete difference. What baffles me is that a technician could not recommend such a simple fix. Unbelievable!!!! Thanks for your video! :)

I know this has been here for a while - but a note about AC condensation. In a Porsche Cayenne, it's good to see AC condensation on the ground - if the condensation port gets clogged, then the line can get filled with water, and leak into the passenger compartment. Seeing a bit of water in the passenger footwell in the summer after running the AC is an alarm bell that the port has been clogged, and the condensation is leaking - what you see in the footwell may be only a tiny portion of what has soaked into the carpet. This is a big issue, as there is a wiring harness that can be damaged by the water. Checking and clearing the ports is a regular maintenance item that is often overlooked.

So are we breathing in refrigerant?
@ghostwrench22925 ай бұрын
No. Refrigerant is sealed within the A/C system and circulates changing from a liquid to gas as it moves from the evaporator to the condenser. If your evaporator is leaking, you may indeed breathe in some refrigerant but it has a distinct smell.

Does a dirty filter cause the AC to not blow as strong as it could?
@boeingt72363 жыл бұрын
It's the reverse. The more restriction your intake has the more your ac will struggle to get the volume of air that it needs to regulate the temperature. Replace your filters and take your car to a tech to see if your AC refrigerant is good to go.

So how are mice getting into my cabin filter, and building a nest right above the filter in that pocket. I want to fill it with wire, enough to allow plenty of airflow but no room for them to dwell and build a nest. If vehicle companies design it so that it is mouse proof they will sell their vehicles like hotcakes. Because it is nasty and disgusting and is happening to all vehicles mice getting into the air you breathe right into the freaking air filter air conditioning heater system,, are you kidding me. If you're beating this I guarantee you your cabin filter is got a mice excrement, and you're breathing it. Good luck and thanks for the excellent video.
