On 2002 Volvo s60 2.4turbo you need to remove the Breather hose over the engine to be able to pull the power steering box on top of the engine! Also you will need to remove the cap on the back of the headlight to be able to get the alternator out!

This also works for the 2006 with the turbo boost hose over the top of the engine. The only differences are that the PS pump bolts are 10mm, and you have to remove the rubber section of the boost hose- no need to remove the whole hard plastic piece, like in the other popular video about this. The alternator is a tight fit, but I pulled it out from the mounts, rotated about 90 degrees to the left, and it just barely slid out. Took me three hours and really wasn't that bad. Take note of your serpentine belt pattern before removing it! I forgot to do this, and there are several versions of this engine, so it can be hard to find.

Great video again! I just bought a similar Volvo from distance; it has a broken alternator, which I do have to replace before getting it on the road and drive home. I bought already a new alternator to be changed there, before I can drive it home. Now I know the tools which I need to take with me. This video made my day - thank you!

This is helpful! I have an 07 XC70 that needs a new alt, this gives me a good idea of the level of PITA the install will be. I watched another video, and it looked like much more of a PITA there. The drained the radiator, removed the cooling fans, disconnected the power steering lines. Nice to see it's possible to do it without messing with that stuff too much.

Does it matter if I put a lower amperage alternator in? Also, what if it doesn’t have a clutch pulley doesn’t matter if I have one or not? Are they interchangeable?

Is there any way to tell if it's the alternator or the voltage regulator? Can anything else stop the charging? I can't reach the wire to the alternator to test there. Where does it go from the alternator?

The car I'm working on 01 v70 t5 wagon has a completely different intake manifold it is much larger then the one she is working on there is almost no way to get the wires off the back of the alternator and there is a big ol intercooler pipe in the way of getting to the AC compressor
