Matt: I realize the last couple comments were almost a year ago but I wanted to make sure that other YJers like me didn't run into the same issue regarding the EGR tube. If you are planning on removing the exhaust manifold to do a swap you're going to run into that nifty tube running from the bottom of the intake manifold down into the exhaust manifold. You want to make sure that little guy doesn't bend or break because finding one can be a real hassle! Keep up the good work... there are guys like me that watch your videos a couple times before and during anything under my own hood.

I want to say THANK YOU for all of your informative videos, and your clear explanations. There's no way I could have fixed my vehicle or even learn about my vehicle if I didn't find your channel! I really really mean it, thanx!

Matt I found that if you get a piece of garden hose and put 1 end to your ear and run the other end along and around the exhaust pipe you will find the leak real easy.
@SeriouslyAwesome6 жыл бұрын
Feel pretty confident that this needed more work before long (particularly around the manifold). I think Matt would agree, this early video has some real cringe to it. Still, I appreciated it because there aren't enough 2.5l motor videos out there. It helped me the first time I changed my exhaust mani. I had about as much fun as Matt. It can be a rough time esp if you spring air leaks and loosened bolts down the line (likely because of bad torquing--best tip would be to use a flex socket with extensions with your torque ratchet)

To identify any leaks fill a spray bottle with soapy water. Spray the intake/exhaust mating surfaces on a COLD engine. Don't be afraid to do a heavy spray and start the engine. If there are any leaks there is a chance that they will cause the soap solution to bubble.

As Denny177 says, you do NOT want that debris getting into the motor. I hosed mine down with engine degreaser, waited for it to do its job and then used a towel to wipe it clean. This way you won't get crud in your engine.

the original gaskets technically were only intake gaskets and that is why there were no holes for the exhaust ports.

How can I tell if my 1999 jeep wrangler has a header ???? I just bought it 1999 jeep wrangler tj.... I can't tell if its a header or stick maniifold
@fatjackson728 жыл бұрын
A header will look like pieces of tubing bent and welded to a collector at one end and a flat flange at the other end. A stock type manifold will look like it was all cast as one piece. Usually a header looks more slender, less bulky.

EZ out is the worst tool to use. I know this from experience. What I had to do to my 300 ford was actually weld buttons onto the end of the broken off stud (being extremely careful not to weld the broken stud to the block) until I had enough filler metal on the end to weld on a nut. Then let her soak in PB Blaster over night, hit her with the torch in the morning (just have a fire extinguisher handy) and she finally broke loose. Hard to explain the process.
