Leaving the axle nut on at the end of the axle shaft would prevent you from messing up the threads when smacking it with a hammer. Never smack the axle shaft like that unless you’re replacing it.
@mml12249 ай бұрын
good job, ! but y did you take the axle nut off/hub? i ve seen a video where they left the axle shaft on, the same way u took it off, pretty confused?

I liked your video! When you, at 5:06 , used the hammer to strike the threaded part with no buffer of any sort, I thought you might regret it. Maybe hold an 8-9 inch long piece of 2x4 lumber there, to be between the hammer and the threaded part??? You fixed the bent thread adeptly, starting at 10:45 ,Bravo!

Learned two things: 1) the castle nut @92 ft-lb is far beyond what many did with an open wrench; 2) leave gear in neutral when tightening the axial nut. Thank you.

Another thing, you learn that The ball joints is still fine. Toyota original ball joint never fails, they last forever. Literally. only stabilizer links, control arms bushings, struts, and struts mount worn out in Toyota. The ball joint in cars are not heavily loaded and Toyota designs ball joint really well. Made by Koyo/SEIKO. Well-known ball bearings and Watch makers

I like this ball joint design you just take off the bracket holding it without needing to remove the knuckle to press the ball joint out. Honda/Acura should take note.

There’s no need to remove the cv axle nut or tweak the dust shield, just have to pivot the base of the ball joint 90° and it slides in and out.

As an alternative method to torqueing the axel nut, and using the breaker-bar in the wheel studs: run the axel nut down; put the wheel and tire on; lower the car; THEN, torque the axel nut.

hi 1auto do i need to remove the axle nut for the ball joint replacement??
@1AAuto3 жыл бұрын
+Jay Jay Lift and support the vehicle with the jack and jack stands Remove the wheel Remove the ball joint cotter pin with the side cutters Loosen the ball joint castle nut with a 19 mm wrench and a hammer if necessary Remove the two 17 mm nuts and one 17 mm bolt attaching the ball joint to the lower control arm Disconnect the ball joint from the lower control arm Pry the ball joint down with a pickle fork, which could damage the ball joint boot. Remove the castle nut and remove the ball joint Remove the spindle nut with the 30mm 12-point socket Remove the CV axle with a hammer and center punch

Is there any specific reason other than for demonstration purposes that you're replacing this ball joint? It looks like the part was in great condition. I'm honestly concerned with the fact that you destroyed a part that costs almost 2-5x more than the one you put on, and will last significantly lesser.
