Thank you 1AA for another good video. Just a note for anyone doing this work by themselves. The official VW torque specs are as follows: (A) For the top self locking nut: 60 NM. (B) For the three lower nuts: 60 NM for cast steel control arm ; 100 NM for steel or aluminum control arm. These bolts MUST be tightened in "curb weight position" as per VW.

The Allen wrench for removing seized bolts is a good idea. But on the MK5, you can’t actually remove the axle without removing the ball joint, so you wouldn’t be able to get to it anyway.

What does the nut on top of the balljoint get torqued to? My Haynes manual isn't too clear, and y'all didn't mention it either. I'm hoping to avoid having to take out the axle bolt.

60nm according to GTI /GLI MI6 Platform. Just apply locktite liquid on it and use a floor jack to put pressure up on the Control arm end to give some curb weight to the ball joint and use hand tight to tighten that bolt

Is it a no no to Jack the car from the bushing mounts too? It’s also a common place for axel stands!

Why is it that the ball joint on the right side and it says L on the ball joint should be r on right side

I hear 16 as well and it looks like he does 16 cause the torque wrench clicks real early. 60 winds up being 44.25 which seems light to but sounds much better.

Just tried replacing the ball joint on my 2008 Mk5 GTI. Absolutely impossible, it's like the ball joint is glued stuck or something, can't get any movement in it whatsoever. Tried everything!!
