Instead of replacing an entire CyberPower CP1500AVRLCD UPS, you can replace just the batteries. This unit takes two 12V 9AH Batteries - It may only look like one, but there is a top (secured by a bracket) and bottom battery.
The replacement batteries from CyberPower are between $80 - $100 for the set. My experience with the generic batteries is just as good and they are usually more than half the price (~$40 for the pair).

This procedure is identical for the CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD (the one with the tilting LCD display and two USB charging ports on the front). Thank you for this informative tutorial, and the links for replacement batteries!

Thanks, doing this procedure on exact hardware. Very helpful to have a preview. Btw one trick I've heard mechanics recommend is taking a picture of the assembled part before you start replacing it. That way you always have a picture to go back to if something doesn't seem quite right.

Thanks for the tutorial. I had a problem with my screwdriver being too large for the screws and while i got them off I was unable to securely tighten the top bridge screw. Also, no matter how I tried I could not get the case to line up on both sides at the same time so i am currently running with the front cover loose.

Just a note that higher end rack mount UPS models typically have hot-swap batteries which are really convenient. The advantage is with hot-swap is that you can just pull out the battery pack and replace it with everything running / plugged. These cheaper models don’t have that feature but it would be great if they did.

Thanks so much for this terrific video! It's the best one I previewed, and you were a great guide. I was able to replace my batteries. One suggestion though. I should have removed the original cables from their connection using needlenose pliers. Couldn't do it by hand. Will be purchasing a smaller, longer pair of those tomorrow.

Nice video, really helps since we have the same type. We have the CyberPower 1500 AVR only it has the 2 usb ports on the front. Not sure if it sounds like a battery problem or something else. It has 2 PCs and a monitor hooked up to it. Whenever window AC compressor kicks on or off, it always made a clicking sound. I guess it was sensing a power drop and was switching to battery for a split second. It's about 4 years old or more, the batteries still power the 2 PCs and monitor when power shuts off. The problem started a couple of weeks ago, when the AC compressor kicks on or off, we still hear the UPS clicking sound, but 1 PC and the monitor shuts off, 1 PC stays on, not sure why. The monitor powers on about 1 second later and resets itself. The 1 PC won't come back on until you press the power button. It repeats the same way every time the AC compressor kicks on or off. The fact that 1 PC stays on is puzzling. Looking for possible explanations. Hate to buy a whole new unit if not necessary. Thanks for any ideas.

I would rather have to replace single batteries in a unit like this than the way APC does their Replacement Battery Cartridge (RBC). You can replace the actual physical batteries on them, but it's a pain; they have both batteries held together with glue or double-sided tape. There is also a connector that changes from different models. So you better get yourself some glue or double-sided tape and make sure that you buy batteries that have the right contacts and are the same amp hour or slightly higher if the batteries are the same size.

This helped a whole lot! Before I found this video I tried to remove the cable by hand but it wouldn't budge. I was panicking thinking I must be doing something wrong, or it probably isn't supposed to be pulled out. But I found your video and realized I just had to get some pliers and really wrestle with getting that joker pulled out. Wish I knew about using a generic brand of batteries earlier because I got the RB1280X2A replacement battery thinking it was a good deal since it was half the price of getting a new UPS, but paying $40 would of been waaay better! Anyways, thanks for the video.

Thank you for the kind words. I was hoping someone would find a use for the video. The generic batteries do just as well (maybe better) than the name brand. We stock up on them at my office because when one goes, a few others seem to follow.

I have the older CP1500 that came with a blue screen and uses the RB1280X2A (2 stacked) batteries. Can the model in your video use the RB1280X2A batteries? The only difference seems to be your batteries are separated while mine is stacked.

Is it the same model? There are several different battery configurations depending on the UPS model. The main thing to do is take pictures of what it looks like BEFORE and while removing the batteries and just replace the batteries using the pictures you took as a guide. Just make sure that the batteries that you are replacing them with are the appropriate ones.

@@LuminousMatrix Yes, photos are GREAT but I was NOT planning to bother replacing the damn batteries until I couldnt find a replacement unit in stock anywhere, so I decided try replacing the batteries but I had already took out the old ones 3 weeks ago and have no memory exactly how it was put together. I'm throwing the whole damn thing out with the batteries that just came and all of it, done with this crap, just going to do what I should have done to begin with- buy a NEW unit, the electronics in the damn thing are probably bad anyway, doesnt even turn on with the batteries in, with them out it briefly comes on and flashes the display rapidly. Sometimes you just throw money after money away trying to fix 6 year old crap like this that has some other problem not user repairable by design. Yes it is CP1500AVR but they changed the design, even the outside case is not exactly the same as mine bought 6 years ago. I just bought a new one on Staples.com $134.95 Shipping FREE

I really do not like the cyberpower units I have a 1500 PFC LCD compared to the APC units. The cyberpower gave me no warning that the battery was dead and when I had a slight power surge it dropped all of my equipment with no battery backup that's a deal-breaker right there for any future equipment from this company. Replacing the battery on the cyberpower is awkward compared to the easy 2-minute replacement on an APC unit. I've been using APC units for 35 years and decided to try the cyberpower because it was priced at a lower price point. But I will not be going back to cyberpower and have replaced this unit with an APC 1500 with voltage regulation and sine wave power.
@LuminousMatrix
@LuminousMatrix 6 ай бұрын
I think UPS units are pretty much hit and miss no matter what brand. The reason I switched to cyberpower sounds similar to your situation but in reverse. I had used APC units for years but then they started dying with no warning and only learning there was an issue when the power blipped and it was too late. You should stick with whichever you feel most comfortable rolling the dice with - I prefer cyberpower because I’ve seen about the same reliability at APC while saving a few bucks. Thank you for sharing and watching!
