I figured out how to do this a few years back by watching another KZbin video, but your video is more clear. Dealership charges $110 to do this, when an air filter is like $10 on Amazon.

Great job saved me some time! The idiot that changed it before put the cover on backwards and did not install the screw. Thanks for your video. New filter installed and yes new screw!

I just completed this in my 2013 Escape. You definitely made it look easier than it is, I probably took 4 times as long as you but at least it's done now. Your video was really helpful, especially the thing about pinching the filter.
@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews8 жыл бұрын
Thanks @thesteaktc- yeah I try to keep the videos brief, so some of the struggle is edited out, lol. Right on with the squeezing and expansion in the right direction to pop it in place. Thanks for watching- Let me know if you have any other questions or if you have a request for another video!

Thanks! Great video! also be advised it's a star shaped screw, I'm glad I had. Ford had to make it complicated.

It's a T0RX screw (star-shaped) - super common these days in automotive.

I wish you would have showed how to remove the glove compartment too. I'm sure I can figure it out but it would have been nice to see it so I could save some time. Good information for replacing the filter.
@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews8 жыл бұрын
Hi @John- Thanks for the complement and for watching! You actually don't need to remove the glove compartment for this job. There IS the cover underneath it that's held on by the two tabs, but the actual glove compartment stays attached. I usually try to show all the steps involved, or spell them out- are you trying to access something other than the cabin air filter?
@theblackarrow4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the detailed video. I changed my filter on my 2016 Ford Escape. Had the same replaced by the dealership and the car didn’t smell great for too long after. And the torx screw was missing... Keep up the good work. P.S : How do I keep the vents under the wipers clean? I have a lot debris underneath the hood/air intake and I think it’s part of the reason for the musky smell.
@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews4 жыл бұрын
hey, @theblackarrow, no problem! You should be able to replace the torx screw fairly easily- It's a fastener made for plastic and probably a metric size. If you replaced it you wouldn't even need it to have a torx head, could just be what you can find... philips, flat, hex... etc. In terms of the vents under the wipers, if I recall correctly, the 2 inner vents are actual intakes to the cabin air blower and the other 2 are drains for water runoff from the windshield. There is a lot of discussion on how to keep them clean, or prevent cleaning and a lot of people just go through the pain of meticulously removing each bit of debris with vacuum cleaners and some patience... IF you're interested, we did a short video here on a possible modification using a soldering iron to melt the screen mesh into the plastic to prevent debris from getting stuck behind the plastic grating: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYezpYeNjtWJh7s Some people like it, others don't feel like they want to spend the time, but that's what I did. Now all I have to do is pull stuff out of the screen instead of fight with things stuck behind the plastic. Hope this is helpful and thanks for asking!
@richardbarkley99092 жыл бұрын
As far as the vents under the wipers clean them well with a vacuum then rubbing alcohol a couple of times. Cut fiberglass household screen to size, use Velcro on all 4 edges to attach.

The 2016 Ford Escape that I have, has the cabin air filter door exposed. You wont have to remove anything to access the door. Thank you Ford.

Hello, can you possibly please do a video on location and replacement of the blend door actuator on a 2013 Ford Escape? I have a 2013 SEL. Please and thank you. Your videos are extremely helpful and informative for all of us do it yourselfers.
@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews Жыл бұрын
Hi William- yes! We are currently pulling the seats from our Escape so that we can clean up some mold growth in the upholstery and once we're done and the car is ready for more videos, I plan on addressing a few videos which are more convenient to do at that point and getting to the blend door actuators is one of them. How time sensitive is this for you? I am currently thinking it may be 4 weeks out or so. Is this ok?
@williammcgovern1853 Жыл бұрын
@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews That is great news. I can definitely wait the 4 weeks. Thank you so very much for taking the time to reply and for fulfilling my request for a video on the blend door actuator. You would think with all the problems over the years with these things that Ford's engineers would come up with a better design or in the very least, make it easier to access and change it out when it fails. Thank you again. I will be looking forward to the video. 🙂

Your videos are the absolute best on the '13-'16 Escapes!! Really appreciate them!! Do you have experience replacing the drivers door entry key pad? Mine is all crazed from the sun. I have found replacements WITH the actual key pad AND what looks like just the plastic cover.......Thanks!!
@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews2 жыл бұрын
Hey Richard! So sorry for the delay- thank you for such kind words and for taking the time to say something- it's funny you should ask about the keypad- our '13 keypad actually all but stopped working this month due to a million tiny fractures in the plastic as well- I'm actively looking into it. I have read that it's plastic as you said, whereas I originally thought it was glass. So that's good you confirmed it- thanks! From some quick digging, I did find this on Tasca Parts- www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts/ford-keyless-lock-pad-driver-s-side-lh-cj5z14a626ad?c=Zz1ib2R5JnM9bG9jay1hbmQtaGFyZHdhcmUmbD00NyZuPUFzc2VtYmxpZXMgUGFnZSZhPWZvcmQmbz1lc2NhcGUmeT0yMDEzJnQ9c2UmZT0xLTZsLWw0LWdhcw%3D%3D it looks like the side panel with the keypad possibly mounted behind it. The concept sketch drawing seems to have a wire connector hanging down from it, so it must be plug and play. I'm not quite sure how to get to it yet though- I'll post a video when/if we fix ours- it may be a little while but we'll post it for sure! Give a shout if you end up fixing yours first! :P

Not mentioned in the video, or any comments: Any good air filter will have an "air flow direction" arrow somewhere on it. The air flow on any applicable vehicle is FROM the firewall TOWARD the interior (cabin) of the car.
