If my sensor goes bad, can't I just replace the sensor and not disturb the synchronizer? Im not understanding the importance of changing BOTH parts when it's the sensor that failed.

Considering the oil pump drive at the end of the "distributor" shaft, the sensor drive should go in only one way. The 93 ranger has a distributor in the spot and the 96 has a slightly different cam sensor with the connector going straight down instead from the side. Will the newer sensor work on all 4.0 pushrod engines.

Is this the same procedure to use on a 1996 Explorer? I removed the OBC connector and pushed it out of the way. Looking down the backside of the engine I could not see anything except wire bundles that do no respond to moving by hand. There is barely enough room between the engine block and firewall to put my hand in, can't see the cap or to bolt heads. Is there that much difference in the placement of Ranger and Explorer?

Dude what happened to the new synchronizer? That's the old one you reinstalled.

an its about 3 inch space to work including the cable you moved an a AC line ans a small cable, not to mention the hood blocks your viewing space.

Is this the same as a 1993 f250 460? Cuz I'm not finding any videos on that specific one... nvm it definitely isn't the same

I have the 5.0l mountaineer. Similar procedure,but I'm swapping from one engine to another because of a spun bearing. I'll be moving my entire wire harness over to the rebuilt engine that had the 2 wire sensor and small "tooth" on the synchronizer... Now installing the three wire syncro with the half moon type like in this video. After setting top dead center on compression; how do I know where to drop in the syncro and where does the tooth go?

So you put put the new shaft into the position that the old shaft was in upon removal and then when you put the new one in it rotates into place?

It looks like in the middle of the video when you’re replacing it you’re putting a brand new one in but at the end of the video it looks like you’ve put the old one back in. Why would you do that?

I was looking for a camshaft sensor not synchronizer why is this video popping up when we are looking for a camshaft sensor not a synchronizer in your video is coming up under a 7.5 L big block engine for a 97 F250

THIS IS NOT THE CORRECT INSTALLATION, instead of guessing the amount the gear will rotate use the alignment tool when your engine is at top dead center of the compression stroke on cylinder 1
