Just did this job on a 06 4.3L. NOTES: 1.) No coolant needed to be drained. 2.) for my 19mm socket, and 1/2" ratchet, I disconnected the steering shaft to get at the area better (just like I did for spark plugs in that area), 3.) do clean the area with brake cleaner well enough that a quick switch is possible without gunk getting in the way of the threads, 4.) loosen the old sensor to the point where you don't need even a socket on it. Have the new sensor in your dominant hand & near the area, spin the old sensor out with the non-dominant hand, throw the new sensor right back in. Doing it this way I lost less than one ounce of coolant, which was amazing.

I am always super grateful for videos like this and I have learned quite a bit over the years. but my big issue with a Videos like this is that they start in the engine pointing out what the item is but they don’t actually show you how to get there from outside of the truck. So when somebody like me tries to duplicate what you did I spend a whole lotta time staring at the engine trying to figure out where you’re at.

Thanks for the video. I'm having a heck of a time with replacing mine before I can even get off the ground. Inside my engine bay (2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 v6 base) my temperature sensor is connected but the wire fell off on the opposite end the part of the wiring where it connects to the top of the engine block mass of wires. I can't find the place where the wires came off from or a diagram with clear indications of the wiring so that I can TRY to splice back on what else can I try before taking it in...?

I have a 2008 Silverado V-6, I was driving home one day and the temperature gauge wasn't working, the fans were running at high speed and the info on the dash said engine hot, I pulled over, opened the hood and the engine was not hot to the touch or sound like a engine that has overheated, once I got home I let it sit for a long time restarted and the fans were running at high speed and again the dash said engine hot with temp gauge not moving off cold, so I knew it was something electrical because the engine was stone cold and disconnected my battery for several seconds then reconnected it, this fixed the problem , the gauge was working as normal, no messages of hot engine, and fans only kicked on after driving a while and temp was up, I thought it was a fluke thing since the truck was sitting for over a week, it ran normal for days after , but now it idles rough when cold , I put some injector cleaner in thinking since the truck was not driven for a while the gas in the tank got moisture , the cleaner helped a bit, but still will idle rough as the RPMs go up and down till it warms up , then it will run OK, Is that coolant temp sensor the problem?

@Shanonmcnab5764 жыл бұрын
@@brandonfarmer7446 my question is if your engine is hot why is your check engine light is not flashing??? A check engine never flashes for a engine coolant temp sensor it stays on. In the vehical manual if your check engine stays on you can drive it till you get it serviced but if it's flashing you immediately have to pull it over, shut it off and call a tow truck or you could have a catastrophic failure. So I doubt the engine coolant temp sensor can really overheat an engine to the point of destroying it.

@raydraiz18593 жыл бұрын
You need to reset the check engine light and you can do that with a check engine tool that you can get from Walmart for 20 bucks OBD reader I think it’s called or at Harbor freight or you can remove your positive battery cable from your battery for I think 10 minutes 20 minutes maybe the most I don’t think it takes that long to reset and then reinstall battery terminal. This will reset the check engine light and all your settings that you have on your radio and probably other things that have personal settings. When I do it it does not reset my Electric seat position one or two for the different riders using the vehicle.
