The shaft cost me $225 in Canada at NAPA. Service at the dealer in Airdrie was quoted at $750, shaft included. Where are you that it only costs $250 installed?
@wizardonthejob2 жыл бұрын
@@rossgee2950 I'm just talking about the labor. It was going to cost me about that much in labor to have a mechanic do it. now I'm going to do it myself.
@rossgee29502 жыл бұрын
@@wizardonthejob That makes sense. Not a bad price for the labour, though. I just installed the right shaft in mine. Because of rusted parts and since the shaft was very resistant to popping loose, it took me 4 hours. Had to drop a section of the exhaust to get a rod in line with the end of the shaft to bang it loose.

I’m so glad I watched this! My passenger side cv axle did not click in and I thought it was in. I can grab the cv axle(where you had to put a screw driver to knock it out) and wiggle it…that’s probably my vibration issue! Thanks for the video!

@@MCFIXIT So I had no luck getting my cv axle to seat. I am using a brand new aftermarket and I’m wondering if that’s my problem. I have a OEM cv axle on the way and hopefully I have better luck getting it to seat in place. I can still wiggle the part where you had to hit with your screw driver, but the smaller opening part looks flush up against the transfer case. I just don’t get it. If all else fails I’ll have to take it in which I always try to avoid, but sometimes I have to swallow my pride lol.

I did record it but it failed to record the whole thing so I never released it. They are pretty inexpensive from Honda and only moderately difficult. Removing the dust shield is key in getting them out easily.

Mine 06 started Vibrating like crazy when going over 60 and its only doing it while accelerating and pressing gas! What you thing it could be?
@MCFIXIT2 жыл бұрын
Where do you feel the vibration from? Front? Back? A side? I'd look under it for anything loose or broken - tie rods, struts, axle, cv joint, etc. I'd look at that area first. That's not normal and can lead to a more serious issue or wreck if not fixed if it's vibrating like crazy.

How do you prevent over or under torquing the axel nut when installing it with an impact wrench?? You said you want 250lbs/ft.
@MCFIXIT Жыл бұрын
Honestly, it’s more by feel. Don’t hold it down and let it really get to work on there. Eventually I’ll buy a ratcheting torque wrench that goes up to 250 foot pounds. There’s not a whole a lot of applications for it though so I have not bought one yet.

Commented on the wrong video... im tryibg to track down a clunking noise. And seems i found the cv axles slide side to side and make a clunk... this normal?
@MCFIXIT3 жыл бұрын
No. They should not make a noise and move. They should on move side to side. My main issue was the grease was leaking out which means they would be failing soon. You don't want them to go out and not have them changed. It can be very dangerous.
@FJcruisin072 жыл бұрын
Do you need to add trans fluid after doing the cv axles since you lose some fluid?

I always try to replace in the amount of fluid I lose. It may not be 100% necessary, but it is something good to do.

Why did you cut out how to remove the inboard pass. C.v. housing shell that's locked by the sir clip? You just reached in and removed it by hand? In my 43 years as a mechanic I have NEVER had that happen! You used repackaged dorman parts from Napa????? How much vibration afterword?
@MCFIXIT2 жыл бұрын
Very vibration. Yes they were redone ones. Many of them are not the right size unless you get repacked or Honda ones. They are often off by a 1/4 in or more in length. Locks are in the end and when you pull out directly they pop. I didn’t mean to cut anything out. It’s a direct pull and then a direct pop back into place with the new locks that are built into it.

@MCFIXIT3 ай бұрын
Great question. I did check the transmission dip stick and it was still in good range. Such a small amount came out that I am not worried about it. If you lose a lot of transmission fluid then it would be good for you to top off on the correct amount. Thanks for watching and commenting!
