I just replaced thermostat on e36 yesterday and now i know how is thermostat supposed to work.. I concluded that termostat on 2006. 525i is not good as it should be, and after changing out thermostat on e36 this seems like a huge thing to do...

At what miles do these go out at, I’m at 130k and the car is driving fine other than small maintenance like rotors and brakes etc, is the chance that it’s been replaced when it was lower miles high?
@HowtoAutomotive
@HowtoAutomotive 3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say there is a range on them I’ve seen them as low as 30,000 miles go out. Probably more luck of the draw.

@HowtoAutomotive

There is a fuse and relay. I'm not at the shop to look it up but the fuse boxes are under the hood on the drivers side, in the glovebox and in the trunk on the right side. Hope this helps.

Hi, I recently got the code PO597 Thermostat Heater Circuit Open on our 06 325xi Manual (150K). Car is still drivable and not overheating. Cleared code once and same code came back after 200 miles of driving the car. I ordered a new thermostat, and would like to know if I can just replace it without removing the pump?
@HowtoAutomotive
@HowtoAutomotive 6 жыл бұрын
mjcorp7652 that's the heater built into the thermostat. You can just change it with out taking the Pump out.
@mjcorp7652
@mjcorp7652 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the confirmation. I got a clear view of the thermostat and it looks very tight in there. I guess my question is, how long would you keep driving the car? Not overheating and drives ok so far.
@HowtoAutomotive
@HowtoAutomotive 6 жыл бұрын
mjcorp7652 The problem with driving it is you're Check Engine light will be on in if any other additional problems appear you won't know that they're happening. So I would fix it as soon as you can.

Thanks to your vid, gave me confidence on getting it done. Tight in there but got it done in a few hours. Checking temp and about to test drive soon. Thanks again.

Osman Rapalo Either you have air in the system or the pump is not been turned on by the PCM possibly a bad Fuse

What were your symptoms that led you to replace the pump and thermostat? Car overheating. heater not heating up etc. My heater gets warm air at idle but on the road .with air forced through the radiator, heater air is cold. Separate problem on my car is warm heater air on the drivers side but cold air on passenger side. Any thoughts? Thanks
@HowtoAutomotive
@HowtoAutomotive 7 жыл бұрын
Harry Butler on this particular car it had a code for the electric water pump. It sounds like your car is low on coolant you may have a leak somewhere. A stuck thermostat will also cause heating problems.
@jimbutler6391
@jimbutler6391 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response. I had a pinhole in a coolant hose. I replaced the hose and refilled the system a couple weeks ago but only learned about bleeding the system after researching the heating problem. since then I have driven the car several hundred miles and have topped the coolant of a couple times. I think I am going to change the thermostat and see what happens. I have a 2007 328i. I bought it with body damage about a month ago and I'm learning what a pain BMWs evidently are.
@HowtoAutomotive

Harry Butler if you're still adding coolant you must still have a leak somewhere.
@jimbutler6391
@jimbutler6391 7 жыл бұрын
Sorry I was not clear. It appears that I simply had not put enough coolant in it after replacing the hose. The level has stabilized now; but I have read that others had experienced air pockets. I suspect that if an air pocket existed it would have worked its way out by now. I appreciate the help.
