Awesome video. I just did my CRV brakes. One tip. Pop the rubber shock absorber boot off (from the bottom). Mine split when jacked up causing suspension to go to its limit of travel.

A really good video. My comments may seem nitpicky, but having done this on Hondas over their lifetimes, I learned from experience. A 12" bar clamp can be used to retract the piston completely before removing the caliper. It is easier to pull the rear rotors if you back off the parking brake shoes first. A tiny amount of a penetrating oil where the hub protrudes helps enormously. Removing the rotor with 8mm bolts is easier if two are used. The critical part of the hub face to clean is around the center where it passes through the rotor. (It's less critical if new coated rotors are installed.) Retention screws ony need to be finger tight. Clean the caliper guide pin bores before relubricaing. If the old grease is petro based by a previous tech and mixed with new, it will cause the guide pin seals to swell and the pins to bind. Relubricate with silicone or synthetic brake grease. DON'T confuse the two guide pins, the one with the flats goes on the top. Reversing will cause binding. Cleaning the piston seal with brake cleaner removes rust flakes that could be scratch/cut the seal as the piston is pushed back in. Rust trapped in the grease will absorb moisture, swell and degrade the neoprene. Cleaning is the difference between a seal lasting 10 years and 20. Coating the outer surface of the cleaned piston seal with a synthetic grease will keeo it dyr and block chemical degradation. Greasing the inside exposed surface of the piston helps the new pad's clips to slide into that bore.

Great job on the video, I like it simply because it’s what all the vehicles I work on look like, Pennsylvania, most videos I watch the vehicles have like next to know rust, subbed

I was told that those Phillips screws are used at the assembly line to hold the rotor in place during assembly and after that they are not really needed. What do you think? I used an impact screwdriver to remove the ones from my wife's '08 Pilot and it sure makes removal easy! Thanks for the great videos Jim!

Great information, tx very much! my crv's brakes don't squeal or grind and the pads still have life in them. So is it necessary to replace the rotors?
@jimthecarguy5 жыл бұрын
If they are making noise and the pads are still good. Then you should replace the brake pads with a good quality pad and if you want to send me a picture I can see what the rotors look like. Thanks for watching.
