I have a question but first, Andy, I just want to say thank you so much for making these videos! I have the same exact car - 2012 ford escape 🫶 and when I was down and out, when it rains, it pours! My fuel injector needed to be replaced. I was getting 1800, 2300 estimates because of the location- and i truly think its because i had no idea what was what and told them that. Anyways. I found your video and followed your directions.... paid 31 dollars for the part and did it myself. After that, I started paying attention to my car and how things worked , when what needed to be changed and since 2018, only I have done the work on my car based solely off of your videos. I'm able to take mostly everything under my hood apart, change it out and properly put it back thanks to you! So thank you again! I have to do my brakes and rotors tomorrow, of course I ordered my parts from 1A auto and I am beyond excited to do it. BTW shipping was super fast! I ordered the stuff and within the hour I got the email hey your stuff is on the way, pure happiness! If anyone actually reads this long story (I'm sorry!) But I'm wondering, after doing the brakes and rotors, do I bleed the brakes? Is it the last step ? And then i pump the brake?

So you used a 7mm Allen socket to take the slide bolts off, but a 6mm to put them on?

You should open the bleeder valve when compressing the piston or else you will be pushing burnt fluid from the caliber back into the master.

Thanks 1A Auto, I was able to do my brakes after studying your video. One note I would add for those attempting it themselves - my car was "stuck" unable to reverse or go forward likely because of the caliper piston compression. I ran "abs service bleed" using Forscan software and was immediately able to drive the car after that service procedure.

At 12:50 you said you were going to use the 6mm Allen to put it back in, however, when you initially took the calipers off it was a 7mm allen socket. No biggie but just wanted to point it out.

If I'm bleeding the brakes on a 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid is it absolutely necessary to buy a fancy scanner? Can I just bleed them like a regular car??

At 11:35 you use the caliper compressor to push the piston in and then at 11:38 it’s gone… does the piston just stay in place once you compress it??

I put a new caliper clip on that was provided with the new pads. I guess I didn't put on right or whatnot. It fell of while driving and is in no man's land now. Is it absolutely necessary to have it? I don't think I have the original hardware anymore

Looks like you ran into the same problem I had, where the clips on the back of the piston-side pad are too wide to fit into the bore of the piston. I had this problem with a few different brands of pads, I just pinch them down with a big pair of pliers and it all seems to fit fine.
@bradnewton1680
@bradnewton1680 Жыл бұрын
You have to check whick type of piston to determine if you need the small or large clip. My XLT (and I believe the Limited) uses the small clips but to keep the mystery going I don't know which piston type they are...just guessed wrong and exchanged for the right ones. Maybe someone can add some knowledge to this.

Is there a way to know if you have steel or phenolic pistons before you take them apart?
@bradnewton1680
@bradnewton1680 Жыл бұрын
Watched a different video and I think I know the secret ...the steel piston has a larger bore...ie uses the large clip. The phenolic is much thicker and has a smaller bore...ie the smaller clip.....makes sense...
