For those of you struggling to get the right side off. You need to wedge a flathead or something thinner between the black and white part and pry the white part apart while simultaioniusly pushing the white pegs together

Thank you for sharing this procedure with us. I'm about to perform it on my 05 Escape. In the past I've always pulled the fuel pump fuse and ran the engine until it quits prior to disconnecting the fuel lines to minimize the pressure on them. At least this filter is external to the fuel tank making it much easier to swap out.

Can air get in the fuel system if you don't relieve the pressure?

I just replaced my wife's ford escape fuel filter, and found that pulling off the fuel pump relay fuse does not make the engine die. I unplugged the fuel filter connectors with pressure on and got a lot of gas out (250ml). So I believe that pulling off the fuel pump fuse might be right. By the way, there was a check engine light for service emission system, I managed to have it erased. After one hour test drive, no check engine come up again. It seemed good.

I got a 03 escape. Do I have to have the vehicle out of gas completely before I change the filter? That first step, I have to have the car running before I remove that fuse?

My 04' doesn't turn all the way over (why I'm changing the filter to begin with, old and ran with old gas so probably clogged up) can I get away with just siphoning out as much gas as I can? Is it going to ruin my day if theres still some in the tank?

Do I have to empty the whole full fuel tank? What if the fuel tank is full? Can I still replace the fuel tank without empty the whole tank ?

My 95 explorer's o/d light comes on after I have drove for a bit and after the explr has changed gears a few times. That's being the last gear which usually up shifts around 50 mph. I usually reset it by disconnecting the battery for at least 30 minutes. What could be my problem(s)?
