This video shows you how install a fuel filter on your 2003-2011 Mercury Grand Marquis. Fuel filters have a regular maintenance interval just like the other filters in your vehicle! Make sure you change yours when it’s time!
This repair was done on a 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis LS 4.6L Sedan 4-Door RWD Automatic and the process should be similar on the following vehicles:

Today I performed this service for the third time on one of my P71's. If you can remove the white plastic clip without breaking it, that's how you know you've mastered this job!

Just did mine today, the side with the white clip you don't need to remove the white clip itself. You push in on the flat side clip and you're able to disconnect it without it breaking. It's the same setup as the lines on the purge valve solenoid.

Nice easy to follow video. My 2003 Mercury has stalled twice now while sitting at a stoplight. After it cools down a bit, it will eventually start after some cranking. I was thinking it was the fuel pump, but maybe the filter is a bit clogged.

These videos have been so useful in keeping up with the maintenance on my 2005 Grand Marquis. However, couldn't they have gotten a shop car that wasn't rusted through? I live in the Sun Belt and have never seen a car this rusty in person. It's almost unrecognizable.

Loved it when the 90 deg connector breaks when taking out the 160k original filter. I guess I just cut the plastic line from the steel and use rubber hose and clamps. Sweet

That fuel filter was painted, which means the case isn't made from stainless steel like the factory Motorcraft filter. I've found Chyna made filters that have come apart inside sending crud to the injectors.

I also find unscrewing the gas cap releases pressure in the system also.

Better to pull the fuse while it's running. It will bleed the pressure off a bit better. Also, leave the fuse out until your done. Especially if someone around you might go and turn the key to the on position.

Quick question, I did exactly as this video said, and when I was done, my check engine light was on… Is this because I removed the fuse?

Just a heads-up. I just changed the fuel filter in an 01' Mercury Grand Marquis 4.6l. The only difference is that the retaining clips are both made of plastic. Took me 24 min to change it. Also, fuel continues to run, so be very fast about it and have your new filter ready. 👍
